COVID by the numbers – Friday – 3 new Hawkesbury cases – vaccine passport not ready for Monday open
Welcome to Friday afternoon and the latest in-depth Hawkesbury numbers and COVID local news – the numbers are up to 8pm on Thursday night.
This is the most up-to-date round-up of Hawkesbury COVID numbers you can get, compiled by numbers guru Kevin Pollard using NSW Health datasets.
Our thanks, as always, to Kevin for putting the numbers together in this easily accessible format.
Coupled with our regular news updates when we hear about new COVID venues, this builds into a useful daily source of information for Hawkesbury residents.
Today’s headlines:
* 3 new case in the Hawkesbury LGA – 1 of which is from an unknown source and not linked to others.
* There are 27 active COVID cases in the Hawkesbury (was 32 yesterday).
* There are 388 active cases (was 419 yesterday) in the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District, which includes the Hawkesbury.
* Of the 646 new NSW cases (was 587 yesterday) reported to 8pm, Thursday, October 7 – 35 (was 20 yesterday, 33, 28, 15, 42 the days before that) are from Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District.
* There are 7604 (was 7868 yesterday) active COVID cases in NSW.

* Businesses are set to re-open on Monday, but the promised Service NSW electronic vaccine passport will not be ready. A spokesperson said today that at the moment it was only, “being tested internally, primarily amongst Service NSW staff”.
“External participants will be invited to join the pilot in [the] coming days. Participating businesses will include community clubs, aged-care providers and taxi companies. Up to 500 customers will participate,” the spokesperson said.
* Pfizer has asked the U.S. government to authorise its COVID vaccine for youngsters aged 5 to 11. If regulators give the go-ahead, reduced-dose kids’ shots could begin within 3 weeks in the US, and almost certainly later here.
* Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt says ATAGI has recommended boosters (3rd doses) become available for the immune-compromised from Monday – a group of up to 500,000 Australians. The recommended interval for the 3rd dose is 2 to 6 months after the 2nd dose of vaccine.
* Nationals’ leader and Deputy NSW Premier, Paul Toole, doing some clarifying today. He said, the NSW government ‘will clarify’ public health orders to make it clear recreational day trips in and out of Greater Sydney (which includes the Hawkesbury) will NOT be permitted from Monday. They will be permitted from the Monday after the 80% mark is reached (approximately October 25).
* The NSW Teachers Federation said today they were blindsided about the removal of the staggered approach to get kids back to the classrooms, saying their plan is in disarray. Ventilation audits have not been done and not every school will be ready by October 18/25.
