COVID by the numbers – Tuesday – 1 new Hawkesbury case but 75 new Penrith cases in last 7 days

Sep 28, 2021

Welcome to Tuesday evening and the latest in-depth Hawkesbury numbers and COVID local news – the numbers are up to 8pm on Monday night.

This is the most up-to-date round-up of Hawkesbury COVID numbers you can get, compiled by numbers guru Kevin Pollard using NSW Health datasets.

Our thanks, as always, to Kevin for putting the numbers together in this easily accessible format.

Coupled with our regular news updates when we hear about new COVID venues, this builds into a useful daily source of information for Hawkesbury residents.

Today’s headlines:

* Good news today for the Hawkesbury – just one single new case of COVID reported in the last 24 hours, but the nearby 2750 postcode which covers Penrith and Emu Plains has recorded 75 new cases in the last 7 days, leading to Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Marianne Gale saying this morning the Health department was concerned about that area.

* The last time the Hawkesbury recorded under 2 cases was when 1 new case was recorded on September 1.

* There are 98 active COVID cases in the Hawkesbury (was 107 yesterday).

* There are 607 active cases (was 622 yesterday) in the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District, which includes the Hawkesbury.

* Of the 863 new NSW cases (was 787 yesterday) reported to 8pm, Monday, September 27 – 53 (was 43 yesterday) are from Nepean Blue Mountains LHD:

* There were 132,279 COVID tests reported to 8pm last night, compared with the previous day’s total of 93,577.

* Taking a Rapid Antigen COVID test (which can be purchased from pharmacies, convenience stores and online) from the comfort of your own home and getting the result in just 20 minutes will start in Australia on November 1 after receiving approval from the TGA. Each state has to decide if they’ll use them. Prompt and accurate reporting of results to authorities is ‘being worked through’.

8 These tests have been used around the world for 9 months. In some countries such as Denmark, Rapid Antigen tests are carried out in health settings (drive throughs/walk throughs are common) and results are sent to your phone/Health App within 20 minutes which you need to show before entering any venue.

* International travel will resume by mid December, for whichever Australian states or territories are willing to take flights.
