COVID by the numbers – Wednesday – 2 new Hawkesbury cases in postcodes 2756 and 2758
Welcome to Wednesday evening and the latest in-depth Hawkesbury numbers and COVID local news – the numbers are up to 8pm on Tuesday night.
This is the most up-to-date round-up of Hawkesbury COVID numbers you can get, compiled by numbers guru Kevin Pollard using NSW Health datasets.

Coupled with our regular news updates when we hear about new COVID venues, this builds into a useful daily source of information for Hawkesbury residents.
Today’s headlines:
* 2 new cases in the Hawkesbury – both linked to existing cases.
* There are 40 active in the Hawkesbury (was 44 yesterday)
* Of the 594 new NSW cases (was 608 yesterday) reported to 8pm, Tuesday, October 5 – 33 (was 24 yesterday, 28, 15, 42 the days before that) are from Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District, which includes the Hawkesbury.
* There are 451 active COVID cases (was 462 yesterday) in the Nepean Blue Mountains LHD
* There are 8211 active COVID cases in NSW.
* There have been 60,596 locally acquired cases reported since June 16 when the first case in this outbreak was reported.
* Vaxxed numbers – in NSW, by the end of today, October 6, of those aged 16 and over:
70.1% fully vaccinated and 89.6% first dose.
63.8% of 12-15 year olds in NSW have already had one dose and 7.9% are fully vaccinated after the first vaccine was administered in NSW for 12-15 year olds on September 13.
The first dose rate for 12-15 year olds is increasing by between 2.4% and 2.8% each day, which is impressive.
* Premier Dominic Perrottet is considering scrapping the requirement for office workers to wear masks as he revealed his plan today to get employees back to Sydney’s CBD this year. He also thinks there is an “opportunity for some changes” to NSW’s COVID-19 road map.
* Scientific lobby group OzSage says international evidence shows schools without universal mask wearing are 3.5 times more likely to experience a COVID-19 outbreak.
* There were 90,680 COVID tests reported to 8pm last night, compared with the previous day’s: 85,642, 76,892, 88,210 and 98,266 tests.
* These are low testing numbers in NSW compared to the 100,000 to 311,000 tests each day since late July.

* 1 in the 2758 postcode (Bilpin, East Kurrajong, Kurrajong, Kurrajong Heights, Kurrajong Hills, Mountain Lagoon, Wheeny Creek, Mount Tomah, Berambing, Blaxlands Ridge, Devils Wilderness).

NSW Covid vaccination status (of cases during Delta outbreak from June 16 until October 5)
Based on NSW Health Surveillance Reports to September 18 and cases since.
397 deaths: 70.3% not vaccinated (279 people), 16.9% had received 1 dose (67 people), 12.8% were fully vaccinated (51 people)
836 in ICU: 77.5% not vaccinated, 16.7% had received 1 dose, 5.9% were fully vaccinated
7581 hospitalised: 72.4% not vaccinated, 15.3% had received 1 dose, 12.3% were fully vaccinated
60,596 cases: 63.8% not vaccinated, 21.2% had received 1 dose, 15.0% were fully vaccinated
COVID deaths and hospital numbers – 7 deaths in the last 24 hours – none in the Hawkesbury
NSW Health is reporting the deaths of 10 people today – 7 men and 3 women.
One person was in their 40s, one person was in their 60s, four people were in their 70s, two people were in their 80s, and two people were in their 90s.
Five people were from south western Sydney, three people were from western Sydney, one person was from Wollongong and one person was from the Edward River region.
3 people were not vaccinated, 4 people had received one dose of a COVID vaccine, and 3 people were fully vaccinated.
Three people – a man in his 60s and two men in their 80s – acquired their infections at the Allity Beechwood aged care facility in Revesby. These are the first deaths linked to an outbreak at this facility.
A man in his 70s died at Westmead Hospital. His death is linked to an outbreak at the Northcourt aged care facility in North Parramatta. This is the second death linked to this outbreak.
A woman in her 70s from the Edward River region died at The Alfred Hospital in Melbourne. She acquired her infection in the community before being transferred to Melbourne for further specialist care.
There have been 397 COVID-related deaths in NSW since this Delta outbreak started on June 16.
At least 37 of the 397 have died at home, and 20 of those didn’t know they had COVID at the time of death.
At least 51 of the 397 COVID-related deaths in NSW since June 16 were people who were fully vaccinated.
The 51 deaths among people fully vaccinated were 2 people in their 50s, 3 people in their 60s, 17 people in their 70s, 16 people in their 80s and 13 people in their 90s.
The large majority of the people that were fully vaccinated and died of COVID had underlying health issues, and over half had significant health issues.
There are a further 3900 COVID patients that are being cared for in the community (mostly at home) via ‘hospital grade care’.
There are 959 people with COVID (was 978 yesterday) in hospital, with 188 (190 yesterday) people in ICU, 93 (94 yesterday) of whom require ventilation.
