COVID UPDATE – SUNDAY – 77 NEW CASES – 1 DEATH -PENRITH HEALTH ALERT – NEW RESTRICTIONS

Seventy-seven new cases in last 24 hours and more than 100 new cases expected tomorrow says Premier Gladys Berejiklian.

Highly unlikely the lockdown will be lifted by this coming Friday, says Premier.

“I’m anticipating the numbers being greater than 100 tomorrow, and I’ll be shocked if it’s less than that tomorrow,” says Premier.

“I fear tomorrow and day afterwards will be worse, much worse than we have seen today.”

Thirty-three of those new cases have been exposed in the community while infectious.

Over 50 are close family members of those who have been infected.

48,000 tests carried out in the last 24 hours. Premier says we have to get those numbers up.

There are currently 52 Covid patients in hospital, with 15 people in intensive care, five on ventilation.

“This is a serious disease,” says Dr Chant. We cannot afford to have complacency.”

Twenty-three people in hospital are aged under 55, 11 are aged under 35, and six are under 25-years-old.

A 90-year-old woman has died of Covid.

Chief Medical Officer Dr Kerry Chant said she needed to give “frank advice”.

“The case numbers in South West Sydney are extraordinarily high. It is going from household to household,” said Dr Chant.

A health alert was also put out last night for BBQ Galore in Penrith. NSW Health say, “If you were at Barbeques Galore in Penrith – 2/120 Mulgoa Road – on Tuesday 6 July between 2.30pm – 3.45pm you are a close contact and must immediately get tested and isolate for 14 days, regardless of the result, and call 1800 943 553 unless you have already been contacted by NSW Health.”

MORE RESTRICTIONS

Tradies are in focus – from today, masks are now required in all indoor areas of construction sites throughout NSW.

From Tuesday July 13, masks will be required in all indoor common property areas of residential premises in greater Sydney. That means in the lifts and lobbies of apartment blocks.

There are now also additional restrictions on residents of NSW entering greater Sydney – which includes the Hawkesbury.

A person cannot enter greater Sydney for the purpose of exercise or outdoor recreation:

• A person can only enter greater Sydney for the purpose of obtaining goods or services if those goods or services are not reasonably available outside of greater Sydney.

• A person can only enter greater Sydney for a funeral, memorial service or gathering afterwards if there are no more than 10 persons (including the person conducting the service).

A person over 18 who is leaving greater Sydney must now carry evidence showing their address and produce it to a police officer on request.
