COVID UPDATE – WED – LOCKDOWN EXTENDED FOR AT LEAST 2 WEEKS – 97 NEW CASES – HOME SCHOOL CONTINUES

Jul 14, 2021

Premier Gladys Berejiklian has just announced now, the lockdown will continue past this Friday for at least another two weeks, until July 30.

Home-schooling will also continue for the same period.

There are 97 new cases recorded in the last 24 hours, with 24 cases infectious in the community – the Premier has previously said that latter number needs to come down to as close as possible to zero before the lockdown is lifted.

There are currently no new cases reported in the Hawkesbury but venue alerts have been issued the past two days for Windsor locations RiverView Shopping Centre and Coles at Windsor – the former for several hours this last Wednesday, and Coles for around 3 hours on Saturday.

“Stay at home, don’t leave the house unless you absolutely have to,” said the Premier.

“Based on health advice – we need to extend [the lockdown] a further two weeks to 30th July, and that includes home learning,” she said.

Chief Medical Officer, Dr Kerry Chant, outlined the patients in hospital with Covid.

“We currently have 71 Covid patients admitted to hospital and there are 20 people in ICU, four of whom are ventilated. Of the 21 people in ICU, one is in their 20s, two are in their 30s, two in their 40s, five in their 50s, five in the 60s, three in 70s, and two in 80s.

“The reason I take the time to read out those age profiles, it really is to dispel the misconception that Covid is mild and doesn’t affect younger age groups.”

“Yes it is less likely to lead to hospitalisations in younger age groups but it still can be a serious illness admission to ICU so it’s important to keep ourselves and loved ones safe so please follow the public health advice,” she said.
