DAMAGING WINDS AND SURF ACROSS THE COAST SATURDAY – could have some impact into the Hawkesbury
There will be damaging winds along the Sydney coastline from early Saturday morning, pushing into the metro area and possibly spilling over into the Hawkesbury.
Hawkesbury is not specifically mentioned yet but there could be some uptick in windy conditions come Saturday in our area – and by then it will be raining too – so just be aware of likely conditions.
It’s all down to a low-pressure system currently in the southern Tasman Sea which is expected to deepen Saturday producing a surge of southerly winds around its western flank. This surge of winds will increase the risk of damaging winds about the coastline, in addition to large, powerful and damaging surf conditions, say the Bureau of Meteorology.
BOM map shows likely extent of strong wind conditions Saturday. We’ll keep you updated on any changes…
DAMAGING WINDS, averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts in excess of 90 km/h are possible from early Saturday morning along the south coast, shifting up the coastline into Saturday afternoon and evening.
Wind gusts are likely to be linked with showers and thunderstorms pushing over the coastal fringe. Winds are expected to ease below the damaging level from the south of the warning area by later Saturday afternoon, before easing throughout by Saturday evening. Locations which may be affected include Sydney, Newcastle, Gosford, Wollongong, Nowra and Batemans Bay.
