Early Christmas present for Hawkesbury Hospital’s youngest patients

Dec 7, 2021

Hawkesbury Hospital’s youngest patients – those who will likely be spending time in hospital over Christmas – had something to smile about this week thanks to $5000 worth of toys donated to the hospital by Rouse Hill’s The Fiddler public house.

The toys were personally selected by The Fiddler’s General Manager Tara Bonser and Marketing Assistant Maddisson Jones. From electronic gadgets to family board games and baby’s first toy, the duo from The Fiddler made sure they had all of the hospital’s youngest patients covered. “We really wanted to do something to help children and their families needing to spend time in hospital over Christmas,” said Ms Bonser, “and Hawkesbury District Health Service [HDHS], being a local community hospital, was a good choice.” HDHS’s CEO Strephon Billinghurst, said nurses from the hospital’s children and maternity wards, were overwhelmed by the kind gesture and looked forward to distributing the toys to children and babies in the wards. “It has been a challenging year for everyone, but this time of the year tends to be particularly difficult for families with little ones in hospital,” he said. “Parents of children in hospital are understandably worried about their child’s health. If there are siblings, they are also concerned about how they are coping. There is a lot to think about so add Christmas on top of everything, it is often a stressful time,” said Mr Billinghurst. “The generous donation of toys from The Fiddler will certainly go a long way in not only relieving some of these stresses for parents, but is also certain to bring plenty of Christmas cheer to the children’s ward”, he said. “We greatly appreciate the support from The Fiddler and would like to thank everyone involved in making this happen.”
