Increased payments for Hawkesbury businesses doing it tough during the lockdown

Jul 28, 2021

There are new state and federal co-funded financial assistance packages for NSW, with up to $100,000 a week potentially available for larger businesses.

The federal funding of the Business Support Payment in NSW will run until at least August 28 while the Hawkesbury is in lockdown.

There is no news – at least not yet – on expanded payments for individual workers stood down, that’s currently at $600 a week.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian mentioned this morning that new payments would ensure the ‘gap’ between most individuals’ income and the wekly payment would be solved – but as we say, no news on that yet.

What has been confirmed is sole traders will continue to receive $1000 a week.

Under the expanded payment for businesses, eligible entities, which includes not-for-profits, will now receive payments of between $1500 and $100,000 per week based on the level of their payroll.

The maximum turnover threshold has been increased from $50 million to $250 million.

Treasurer Josh Frydenberg said the payment could benefit up to 1900 more businesses that were employing around 300,000 people.

The payment is based on 40% of payroll for businesses that have suffered a 30% or more decline in turnover, and is conditional on businesses maintaining their headcount of permanent and long term casual employees.

This means businesses cannot take “active steps to terminate their employment”.

It will be backdated to July 18 – when the program first started.

The federal government said that workers who had lost hours would continue to receive disaster payments. More than $411million in disaster payments have so far been paid out for 812,000 claims.

Businesses should contact Services NSW or visit https://www.service.nsw.gov.au… for more information.
