Men’s Sheds grants now open – apply before end of July

Jun 21, 2021

Men’s Sheds in the Hawkesbury can apply for funding as part of the latest round of the National Men’s Shed Development Programme (NDSP) funded through the Federal government.

Off the back of Men’s Health Week which ran from June 14-20, Liberal Senator for Western Sydney, Marise Payne, is encouraging all local sheds to apply for Round 22 of the NDSP.

“Men’s Sheds are friendly and inclusive places which aim to support men’s mental and physical good health,” Sen Payne said on Monday.

“Importantly, our ‘shedders’ also give back to the community through charity works and working bees, so they are an integral part of our Hawkesbury community.

“I urge our Men’s Sheds to make an application.”

Men’s Sheds can apply for financial support across these funding categories:

  • Category 1: Health, Wellbeing, and Events $8000 maximum

  • Category 2: Shed Improvements $8000 maximum

  • Category 3: Equipment $5000 maximum

Greg Hunt, Minister for Health and Aged Care, said connection was the key to the success of the more than 1000 Men’s Sheds around the country.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has been tough for many Australians, and it is vitally important that Shed Members remained connected to their community during this time,” Minister Hunt said.

“As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting Men’s Sheds, we provided $500,000 to Sheds around Australia in the latest round of NDSP grants and have handed out $6.4 million in grant funding to support Men’s Sheds since 2013.”

In 2019, under Round 19 of the NDSP, the Hawkesbury Men’s Shed received $2100 to hold first aid and mental health workshops. The funding was also used to purchase a new metal bench lathe.

Applications are open until July 26. Those wanting to submit an application can visit https://mensshed.org/development-grants
