WED COVID UPDATE – 9 NEW HAWKESBURY CASES – 633 NEW NSW CASES – STAY HOME, WORSE TO COME – PREMIER
Hawkesbury COVID cases shot up overnight, doubling to a total of 18 – up from 9 yesterday – and 14 of those are from unknown sources.
NSW overall saw it’s biggest daily increase by far in the last 24 hours with 633 new cases, and there’s more to come, suggests the Premier this morning.
“Unfortunately we had a huge increase,” said Premier Gladys Berejiklian.
“What the data is telling us is we haven’t seen the worst of it. The way we stop this is by everybody staying at home,” she said.
Chief Medical Officer Dr Kerry Chant said, “I can’t express enough my level of concern at these rising cases.
“While vaccination will be an aid and essential where we can live safely with COVID our vaccination coverage at the moment is far too low. We need to do anything we can not to come into contact with anyone.”
There are 462 people in hospital – 77 are in ICU and 25 are on ventilators.
In hospital there are people in every age group, from teens to those in their 80s.
“They have a real and material risk of death,” said Dr Chant.
“We will see more admissions and more deaths if these numbers increase. We have a collective responsibility to do all we can to stop them increasing,” she said.
The message from the Premier is – stay at home.
