$90,000 raised by Keeping the Hawkesbury Afloat flood relief efforts

Just over $90,000 has been raised for Hawkesbury residents who are still suffering the ongoing impact of the 2021 and 2022 floods, thanks to the flood relief concert held at Kurrajong Heights Bowling Club, and donations, plus an auction.

$7010 was raised thanks to the Keeping the Hawkesbury Afloat concert held at Kurrajong Heights Bowling Club, coupled with ticket sales, donations from individuals and local businesses, plus 25% of the bar takings on the evening all contributing to the total of $90,000.

Rotary International also donated.

“It was a great turnout with over a hundred people attending throughout the

event to watch local musicians and bands perform with much dancing and crowd singing,” organiser Lichell Maris reports.

“In between the bands the Bilpin Elvis ran a very successful auction, entertaining guests with hidden talents no one ever knew Elvis had,” said Ms Maris.

“A big thanks to all the bands, other entertainment and volunteers who made

the day a success. Hawkesbury mountains have a big heart, and we are

thinking of the difficulties being suffered by our fellow residents on the

lowlands,” she said.

Steve Kearns of Kurrajong Baptist Church said he was delighted with the event and the funds raised.

“I am literally in awe as I see the power of community reaching out to community,” Mr Kearns said.

“More than just money, these gifts, shared out of deep care and compassion, bring real healing and celebration. This is our story and our story of hope literally is the heartbeat of our community life together.

“You have to love it as the Mountain helps the Valley just as the Valley helped the Mountains. We may not be heaven yet but we can definitely see heaven from up here in the Hawkesbury.”

All proceeds will go to displaced families who will be helped with repairs, rebuilds, mobile homes, water and power reinstated, and even driveway repairs to get them back into their properties.

The Kurrajong Village Baptist Church will administer the funds and work directly with families.
