A Starry Night with the Hawkesbury Regional Museum
A new online exhibition Starry Night: the world of John Tebbutt is being hosted by the Hawkesbury Regional Museum.
The exhibition contains a history of John Tebbutt and his work through objects and images, interviews with family members and experts and a virtual tour of his observatories.
John Tebbutt was a young man of 26 when he sighted the Great Comet of 1861, leading to a long career as a world renowned, self funded astronomer.
Many people helped with the research for the exhibition by contributing knowledge and interviews, including Dr Andrew Jacob and his astronomical colleague Toner Stevenson.
The online exhibition is accompanied by a temporary display in the museum featuring a selection of Tebbutt’s instruments.
