Aladdin JR: Auditions Now Open

Jun 25, 2024

by Imogen Abbott

Fantasia Showstoppers is seeking young and talented actors, singers, and dancers to star in its latest production, Aladdin JR.

As an adaptation of the classic film, Aladdin JR will bring Disney magic to Hawkesbury this October with memorable songs such as “A Whole New World” and “Friend Like Me”.

Aladdin has entertained children since the story was first published in 1710. After the release of the musical Disney film in 1992, the story has captivated a whole new global audience. Fantasia Showstoppers President David Catterall said Aladdin JR is an “incredible opportunity” to be a part of this story.

For the team at Fantasia Showstoppers, this production is one that they are all really looking forward to. “I have always been a Disney kid, so being able to share my love and passion for Disney with the local community is something I cherish”, said Catterall.

Director of Aladdin JR, Jake Elston, has a history with the musical and is now relishing the opportunity to make the show come alive. “I started it with my students back in NZ but never got to finish it with them before I left for Australia. Overall, I think this production is going to be a beautifully fun show, and I can’t wait to see who we have to bring that vision to reality!”

Since its founding in 2020, the company has provided young people with workshops and productions. Their last production of The Lion King brought Jay Laga’aia to meet with the cast.

Catterall expressed the importance of their work, saying that “fostering these opportunities for young performers in our region is so important because it not only develops their skills as performers, it allows them to find new ways to express themselves, enhance their social skills, and build connections with their peers, all while receiving guidance by industry professionals”.

To perform in this production, you don’t need any showbiz experience. Performers aged 8 to 18 are invited to come along to auditions and showcase their talent. Auditions will be held on the last weekend of June, the 29th and 30th, at the Richmond School of Arts.
