BOM’s latest Flood Watch – 12.48pm – major flooding possible in Hawkesbury Nepean Valley Sunday

Saturday’s Warragamba Dam level is at 97.2%, so up a slight 0.2% in the last 24 hours.

The good news is, major flooding is not expected in the Hawkesbury today – Saturday – with BOM’s latest flood watch – number 4 – revealing we have a major flood possibility for our region narrowed down a bit more to Sunday.

BOM says: “Major flooding is possible in the Hawkesbury Nepean Valley from Sunday, with minor flooding expected from late Saturday.”

News organisation AAP is reporting that the Federal government has already allocated Defence Force personnel and 2 helicopters, plus 100 troops available from Sunday onwards to help with any flood situations across NSW, including in the Hawkesbury.

Federal Emergency Management Minister, Murray Watt, said he hoped the ADF resources wouldn’t be needed but they are available just in case.

The NSW government asked on Friday for Defence help if required, and that was immediately given by the Federal government.

“I want to assure people that the federal government is 100 per cent prepared for what might lie ahead,” Mr Watt said.

“One of the things that we’ve learned over the last couple of years is that when we don’t have a federal government that takes responsibility and isn’t proactive, bad things can happen.”
