Focus on roadside flood waste removal this time round rather than skip bins

As the clean-up begins in some areas of the Hawkesbury – parts of our region are still under water – Hawkesbury Council has sent out a media release saying this time around there will be a focus on kerbside rubbish collection rather than skip bins, but there are no times and dates yet for pick-up.

To receive updates on this process as it becomes available, they ask flood-affected residents to register their details on Council’s website at

Registration for flood waste collection will also be through Council’s website.

In a social media post today – this is how Council prefers to interact with residents – they say you can book. now for flood waste disposal.

Heres’s what they say:

“This year, there will be 2 ways for flood-affected residents to dispose of their flood waste.

Book a Flood Waste Collection https://bit.ly/3vQQUwd and we will come and collect your waste from your kerbside.

“Please ensure your flood waste is separated into the following type of waste to be collected:

· Mixed general solid waste (non-putrescible) such as hard or bulky waste, mattresses, whitegoods, and e-waste

· Green waste

· Household chemicals (less than 20 litres or more than 20 kilograms).

“There will be a focus this year on kerbside flood waste collection during the recovery which will increase the speed and efficiency of the clean-up process, skip bins will be a secondary option for removal of flood waste if kerbside collection is not appropriate,” says a Council spokesperson.

They add that, “residents will be encouraged to move their waste to the kerbside of their property and will need to separate the flood waste into specific piles. Information on this will be provided upon registration”.

Any flood waste that does not fall into one of the above categories will be assessed, says Council, “and other arrangements for collection may be required”.
