Hawkesbury police officer Belinda Flynn wins Local Hero Award

Senior Constable Belinda Flynn has been recognised in the Commissioner’s Perpetual Awards for the Advancement of Women in Policing for her work with Ruff Track and Hawkesbury’s Helping Hands.

Police Commissioner Mick Fuller APM handed out the awards to officers across eight categories, with Snr Const Flynn taking out the Local Hero Award.

The Commissioner said the awards were for female officers who had excelled and said Snr Const Flynn had caused positive change with her contributions well outside the ‘normal’ bounds of policing.

Senior Constable Flynn has had a positive influence on the young, vulnerable and people at risk, said the Commissioner, “and she has been widely accepted and recognised by the Hawkesbury community as a compassionate, caring police officer.

“Her involvement in those programs has changed the life of young people, which will enable them to become valued members of the community and turn their lives around,”the Commissioner said.

Senior Constable Flynn was handed her award today – Tuesday – at Bankwest Stadium in Parramatta.

The Perpetual Awards were established in 2006 to acknowledge and showcase the efforts and achievements of women in policing.

This year, the number of nominations received increased by 56 per cent with 78 people put forward across the eight award categories, including three new awards that further recognise the achievements of women and men in advancing the standing of women within the NSW Police Force.

There were 25 award and highly commended certificate recipients, as well as the overall Gold Perpetual Award winner.

Employees and their families attended the awards ceremony, which was emceed by Superintendent Despa Fitzgerald.

Commissioner Fuller praised all the nominees for their efforts and achievements to help elevate the standing of women within the NSW Police Force and community.

“Each day, police officers and administrative staff go above and beyond to support and recognise the advancement of women in the NSWPF and I’m proud to be awarding them today,” Commissioner Fuller said.

“These awards are a testament to the outstanding contributions of our employees and it is a privilege to acknowledge the hard work, passion and dedication of those who actively make our organisation a better place to work.”
