Hawkesbury U12 rugby valiant losers to the Pirates
The game was a high spirited match played in Cammeray with a stunning back drop.
Pirates were first to open their account with a long range try against some sloppy defence. Then off the kick off they scored again after a bit of handy grunt work from their forwards.
Hawkesbury sat behind the line and had a strong conversation of where to go from here. It would seem defence was the on the menu. Another kick off and we were off again. Hawkesbury had promised each other to make their tackles and work hard for each other. And did they ever!
For 15 minutes the defence shored-up. With the ball going back and forward from team to team it would seem like there would be no more points scored by either team.
Until a few penalties got Hawkesbury within 30 metres of the Pirates try line. Some hard direct running from Travis Harkins saw Hawkesbury cross the line 10 metres in and Jenson Taylor had no issues converting just before half time putting the score at 10-7 Pirates.
Full of belief Hawkesbury came out gunning. Running pod after pod at the wall of pirate defenders, who tackled their hearts out. A few sloppy mistakes from Hawkesbury saw the Pirates capitalise and score 2 quick tries, converting one edging further away at 22-7.
Off the scrum Jenson Taylor would score the final try but the clock would not allow the dream comeback. Hawkesbury going down 22-12.
