Hawkesbury Valley 1st Grade crush Quins at first home match this season with 59-0 win

In a return to the Valley’s McQuade Oval home ground on Saturday, the 1st Grade rugby union team won 59-0 against Sydney Harlequins – despite a slow first half – consolidating their top spot ahead of Newport after the round eight clash.

The Club have had a long wait to get back to the home ground, which was closed during the prolonged wet weather we’ve seen, but the return was a winner for both the 1st and 2nd Grade teams, the latter bouncing back after two close losses, to defeat Harlequins convincingly yesterday 34 – 10, keeping them in the top four.

It’s the first time this season the Valley’s teams have been able to play at the home ground, so the event was headlined as Back to Hawkesbury Day, and it saw a large crowd watching in beautiful sunny conditions.

Unfortunately Harlequins had to forfeit 3rd grade and they were too strong for the Hawkesbury Colts boys, winning 22 – 12 in a close contest.

At the after-game presentation held at Windsor Bowling Club, the fundraising auction of the 1st Grade jerseys raised almost $4000 for flood recovery, which is much needed after the club lost a huge amount of equipment from recent flooding.

In the next round, Valley take on Hills at McQuade Oval for Ladies Day, with First Grade kicking off at 3.15 in what is expected to be a much closer match.
