Helping Hands pick up Hawkesbury Mayoral Christmas Appeal

For the first time, Hawkesbury’s Helping Hands charity will benefit from the Mayor’s annual Christmas Appeal.

Hawkesbury Mayor, Councillor Patrick Conolly officially launched the Hawkesbury Mayoral Christmas Appeal on Wednesday.

Mayor Conolly announced the launch at a Homelessness Hub event hosted by Hawkesbury’s Helping Hands in South Windsor.

HHH’s Linda Strickland told the Post the organisation was grateful to have been picked as this year’s nominated charity.

“This is really going to help us continue to help the community in a big way,” said Ms Strickland whose group has been helping those less fortunate in the Hawkesbury for the last nine years.

“I’m proud to launch the Annual Mayoral Christmas Appeal, which I hope will help those in need, as it has for many years,” Mayor Conolly said.

“This is the first year that Hawkesbury’s Helping Hands has been the nominated charity for the Mayoral Christmas Appeal.

“This year has brought many challenges to our community. Bushfires, the drought, floods and COVID-19 have all definitely tested our resilience and continue to present us with ongoing challenges,” he said.

“During this time, Hawkesbury’s Helping Hands has continued to be exactly that – to be the helping hand to so many people in our community.

“Hawkesbury residents have rallied together to provide hundreds of gifts over the years to the Mayoral Christmas Appeal to help those who struggle at Christmas time,” Mayor Conolly said.

“I know that this generosity of spirit continues in the Hawkesbury and I thank everyone who can help Hawkesbury’s Helping Hands to help others at this special time when those less fortunate are struggling to make ends meet.”

Hawkesbury’s Helping Hands has asked for gifts for men, women and children of all ages.

“I hope the Mayoral Christmas Appeal brings plenty of Christmas cheer to our community, both through giving and receiving,” the Mayor said.

Gifts must be unwrapped and can be dropped off from Monday, 9 November at Council’s Administration Building, 366 George Street, Windsor, or Hawkesbury Central Library, 300 George Street, Windsor or Richmond Branch Library at 29 West Market Street, Richmond.
