Residents and pets escape South Windsor house fire by climbing on verandah roof Thursday morning

Jul 14, 2022

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews from Richmond and six other fire stations put out a major house fire this morning at South Windsor’s Mileham St after the home’s residents clambered onto a verandah roof with their pets to escape the inferno.

Flames engulfed the two-storey home around 8.15am. The fire crews set-up a defensive perimeter around the home and doused the fire.

Eight fire trucks rushed to the address and 30 firefighters from Richmond, Riverstone, Cranebrook, Ropes Crossing, Penrith, Schofields and Huntingwood quickly accounted for the home’s occupants and their pets.

The Windsor Fire and Rescue crew were at Sackville helping with the flood clean-up, so what they call ‘the move-up station – in this case Richmond crews, were quickly on the scene.

The cause of the blaze is still being investigated.
