Something a bit joyful for Sunday – Music in the Village is on

Mar 20, 2021

Given all the rain and gloomy predictions around flooding, it’s good to know that if you can get to Kurrajong you can meander your way from café to restaurant for the next six weeks and be entertained by a range of singers as you go.

The six week long event kicks off tomorrow with Daphne Web (above) at The Village Kitchen with James Key. They’re an acoustic duo who started making music together after meeting at WSU Kingswood. They’ll play a variety of popular songs from across the decades, and folk tunes that are sure to leave everyone feeling happy.

Wil Linder is only 18 years old, but the local singer/songwriter – who performs a range of classic country and rock hits, as well as original music, all with passion and energy – will be there too with his magical performance, his warm folk tunes and his cheery stage presence.

Wil’s captivating performances stem from his comfort with a crowd. He began his musical journey at a young age, learning guitar from age 10, and began singing at 13.

He has been the lead in two local school musicals, as well as being heavily involved in showcases with his rock band during high school.

Wil began experimenting with acoustic busking with a friend at 14, developing a comfort with strangers enjoying the music he made. He thrives in a solo acoustic environment, discovering the genres that suit him most along the way.

Mady Disbray will be at Schembrae’s at Kurrajong on April 11.

In 2020 Mady won the Hawkesbury Australia Day Community Arts Award.

She is an acoustic singer/songwriter and plays a mix of music from pop, to folk, rock to soul. Mady has played at many Hawkesbury venues and is a delight to hear.

PBT

What happens when you mix blues standards with hard grooves and a smattering of modern pop? You get PBT. A band committed to groovin’ blues with a twist.

PBT has been playing pubs, clubs, parties and community events since 2018 and they’ll be playing at Common Ground Cafe on Saturday April 24, wrapping up the six week music fest.

All three members have a long history with live music across the Sydney music scene.

Brett Tierney brings his skills in blues, rock, swing and country on drums. Nigel Gorham holds down the pocket on bass and fattens the top end on saxophone and backing vocals. Pete Wood adds delta sounds with slide guitar and howling vocals.

PBT’s dynamic combinations will get your foot tapping and your head humming.

There is nothing they like to see more than the audience singing and dancing along with songs by Gerry Lee Lewis, Robert Johnson or Tears for Fears. Come and try the PBT mystery.

Blue Sherlock

Blue Sherlock are Willem and Jeremy. Both Blue Mountains locals and professional musicians, they are currently releasing their second original album. Drawing inspiration from a collision of musical influences from Tash Sultana to Hozier, they draw no genre boundaries and use live looping to create luscious vibes and moody textures.

Divinia Jean Divinia Jean is a one-woman musician and songwriter from Penrith.

Using live-looping techniques, she layers guitar, percussion, and vocal harmonies to create her unique jazz-infused folk sound that has taken her to the Sydney Blues and Roots Festival, the Tamworth Country Music Festival, and set her up for her proudest achievement; being the supporting act for Dragon.
