When this Hawkesbury entrepreneur talks rubbish he means business – welcome to skipbin.com

Feb 27, 2022

Back in 2019, one tech-savvy entrepreneur and Hawkesbury local was brainstorming an idea to help assist his local community prevent further devastation from natural disasters, and it all revolved around rubbish.

The idea came about when Richmond local Dylan Gow tried to book a skip bin while cleaning green waste around bushland to prevent the materials becoming hazardous fuel during a bushfire.

“You call around four to five skip bin companies and a few will ring out, you would leave a voicemail but you wouldn’t get a call back, and if you did get in-touch with somebody, you were quickly overwhelmed trying to understand the waste disposal guidelines, categories, weight restrictions, and prices as each company is different,” Mr Gow told the Post.

That was the moment he started to work out how to simplify the skip bin booking process, and he’s now launched his start-up called www.skipbin.com with the help of co-founder Dylan Anderson, and already they service over 500 postcodes across Australia.

“For many years the skip bin industry has been reliant on old school methods of communication for skip bookings, but with modern technology we are able to provide you with the lowest priced skip bins in your area, for your specific waste type and size within 60-seconds,” says Mr Gow.

And there seems to be no signs of any slow down in the need for skip bins. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics the Australian skip bin rental industry is worth $2.4 billion dollars annually and is growing by 6 percent year-on-year.

“It feels great to have the ability to really help our community by ensuring they do not put off ordering a skip bin to remove debris from around their property and to secure their homes, just because the task of ordering a skip bin is a lot harder than what it should be,” says Mr Gow

Mr Gow also volunteers time working with Indigenous business owners and his project has already been recognised by the New South Wales Indigenous Chamber of Commerce who have awarded him a scholarship to help provide advisory assistance and guidance during the expansion of www.skipbin.com within the waste management industry.

Asked how he feels about his business receiving the NSWICC Scholarship he says, “we were ecstatic when the email came through, it was a complete shock, we created skipbin.com to help our neighbours, and now we have a nationally recognised award”.

So, if you’re after a skip bin, have a look at www.skipbin.com
