COVID by the numbers – Saturday – 1 new Hawkesbury case – 80% fully vaxxed likely by Oct 18

Oct 9, 2021

Welcome to Saturday evening and the latest in-depth Hawkesbury numbers and COVID local news – the numbers are up to 8pm on Friday night.

This is the most up-to-date round-up of Hawkesbury COVID numbers you can get, compiled by numbers guru Kevin Pollard using NSW Health datasets.

Our thanks, as always, to Kevin for putting the numbers together in this easily accessible format.

Coupled with our regular news updates when we hear about new COVID venues, this builds into a useful daily source of information for Hawkesbury residents.

Today’s headlines:

* 1 new case in the Hawkesbury – linked to other known cases.

* There are 21 active COVID cases in the Hawkesbury (was 27 yesterday).

* There are 368 active COVID cases (was 384 yesterday) in the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District, which includes the Hawkesbury.

* There are 7296 (was 7604 yesterday) active COVID cases in NSW.

* Of the 580 new NSW cases (was 646 yesterday) reported to 8pm, Friday, October 8 – 41 (was 35 yesterday, 20, 33, 28, 15, 42 the days before that) are from Nepean Blue Mountains LHD.

* There have been 62,384 locally acquired cases reported since June 16, when the first case in this outbreak was reported.

* There were 79,894 COVID-19 tests reported to 8pm last night, compared with the previous days’: 103,388, 112,186, 90,680, 85,642, 76,892, 88,210, 98,266 and 112,334 tests.

* While the Hawkesbury is looking pretty good on the figures over the last few days, our neighbours Penrith are not sitting so comfortably, with new cases in the Penrith LGA in the last 4 days at 35 today and 31, 19, 30 cases on previous days.

* Re: the concern about cases increasing from illegal parties from the NRL Grand Final last Sunday night – there was an increase of 59 cases in NSW yesterday (from 587 to 646) from 103k tests but 66 less cases today (646 down to 580) from 80k tests.

* The NSW VaxPass (digital vaccine passport) is in the testing phase now and in the next few days NSW will begin closed pilots in some regional areas. At this stage, NSW is on track for statewide roll-out of the system on 18 October.

* From this Monday, those who are fully vaccinated will need to show their vaccination status via their My Gov or Medicare Apps on their phone or by going to my.gov.au and the Medicare page before gaining entry into hospitality venues and other businesses. You can also download and print a vaccination confirmation.

* Many hospitality venues are taking bookings only so there may not be a huge amount of walk-ins in the next few weeks.

* As we get closer to Monday, when the Hawkesbury will widely open up, let’s take a quick look at Singapore, which has 91% of its eligible population (aged 12 and over) fully vaccinated. They are seeing rising cases of COVID in Singapore. Cases in the last 5 days: 3590 (today – a record), 3483, 3577, 3486 and 2475.
