COVID by the numbers – Saturday – 1 new Hawkesbury case – local cases dropping but Penrith rising

Welcome to Saturday evening and the latest in-depth Hawkesbury numbers and COVID local news – the numbers are up to 8pm on Friday night.

This is the most up-to-date round-up of Hawkesbury COVID numbers you can get, compiled by numbers guru Kevin Pollard using NSW Health datasets.

Coupled with our regular news updates when we hear about new COVID venues, this builds into a useful daily source of information for Hawkesbury residents.

Today’s headlines:

* 1 new case in the Hawkesbury LGA – linked to others.

* There are 70 active COVID cases in the Hawkesbury (was 83 yesterday).

* Of the 813 local cases (was 864 yesterday) reported to 8pm, Friday, October 1 – 42 (was 49 yesterday) are from Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District, which includes the Hawkesbury.

* There are 579 active cases (was 588 yesterday) in the Nepean Blue Mountains LHD.

*In NSW, by the end of today, October 2 of those aged 16 and over:

65.7% fully vaccinated and 88.3% first dose.

51.9% of 12-15 year olds have already had one dose after the first vaccine was administered in NSW for 12-15 year olds on September 13.

* There were 98,266 COVID tests reported to 8pm last night, compared with the previous day’s total of 112,334.

* Dr Jeremy McAnulty from NSW Health today: “We’re continuing to see the highest number of cases in the suburbs of Campbelltown, Guildford, Greenacre, Toongabbie, Penrith, Bankstown, Liverpool and Merrylands”.

* This is the third time in the last week NSW Health has flagged the suburb of Penrith (2750 postcode) as an area of concern.

* The 2750 postcode (Penrith, Emu Plains) has recorded 109 new cases in the last 11 days (12, 10, 7, 5, 15, 8, 22, 7, 8, 11, 4).

* Dr McAnulty also warned Sydneysiders not to become complacent with COVID restrictions over the weekend around the NRL Grand Final.

* “It’s a particularly big day for the fans, especially for South Sydney Rabbitohs and Penrith Panthers, and while we hope everyone enjoys the game I want to remind people to continue to follow the safety rules to keep yourself and your loved ones and your community safe from COVID,” he said.

* And just in case we think we’re out of the woods – Singapore records yet another pandemic record – 2909 new cases and 8 new deaths.

91% of Singapore’s eligible population (aged 12 and over) are fully vaccinated (Pfizer 76% and Moderna 23%).

* Singapore eased some restrictions between August 10-17 when the eligible population (aged 12 and over) was 75% fully vaccinated. Cases were 5-250 per day between July 8 and September 5. Now: 2236, 2268, 2478 and 2909 cases in the last 4 days.

* 2909 cases per day in Singapore in a country of 5.7 million is the equivalent of approximately 14,000 cases per day in Australia.

* 39 of the 108 pandemic deaths in Singapore have come in the last 11 days. Singapore re-introduced restrictions 9 days ago.

Total active COVID cases in the Hawkesbury – and postcodes they are in

* 45 in the 2756 postcode (Windsor, Sackville, Wilberforce, etc) – was 51 yesterday

* 20 in the 2753 postcode (Richmond, Richmond Lowlands, Londonderry, Grose Vale, Grose Wold, Bowen Mountain, Hobartville, Yarramundi, Agnes Banks) – was 24 yesterday

* 5 in the 2754 postcode (North Richmond, Tennyson, The Slopes) – was 8 yesterday

* 0 in the 2758 postcode (Bilpin, East Kurrajong, Kurrajong, Kurrajong Heights, Kurrajong Hills, Mountain Lagoon, Wheeny Creek Mount Tomah, Berambing, Blaxlands Ridge, Devils Wilderness) – was 0 yesterday

NSW COVID vaccination status (of cases during the Delta outbreak from June 16 until October 1).

Based on NSW Health Surveillance Reports to September 18 and cases since.

* 364 deaths: 72.5% not vaccinated (264 people), 15.1% had received 1 dose (55 people), 12.4% were fully vaccinated (45 people).

* 828 in ICU: 81.1% not vaccinated, 14.7% had received 1 dose, 4.2% were fully vaccinated.

* 7545 hospitalised: 74.0% not vaccinated, 14.3% had received 1 dose, 11.7% were fully vaccinated.

* 58,158 cases: 65.9% not vaccinated, 19.7% had received 1 dose, 14.4% were fully vaccinated.

COVID deaths and hospital numbers – 10 deaths in the last 24 hours – none in the Hawkesbury

NSW Health is today reporting the deaths of 10 people with COVID – 6 men and 4 women.

One person was in their 50s, three people were in their 60s, two people were in their 70s, three people were in their 80s, and one person was in their 90s.

Five people were from south western Sydney, two people were from western Sydney, one person was from Sydney’s inner city, one person was from the Wollongong area, and one person was from the Lake Macquarie area.

Four of those who passed away were not vaccinated, five had received one dose of a COVID vaccine, and one person had received two doses of a vaccine.

The person who had received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine was a man in his 60s from western Sydney who acquired his infection at Mount Druitt Hospital. He had underlying health conditions.

Two people died at home:

A man in his 60s from Sydney’s inner city tested positive to COVID following his death. He was not vaccinated.

A man in his 80s from the Lake Macquarie area was being cared for in the community by the local health district. He had received one dose of a COVID vaccine and had underlying health conditions.

There have been 364 COVID-related deaths in NSW since this Delta outbreak started on June 16.

At least 35 of the 364 have died at home. 19 of those 35 didn’t know they had COVID at the time of death.

At least 45 of the 364 COVID-related deaths in NSW since June 16 were fully vaccinated.

The 45 deaths among people fully vaccinated were 2 people in their 50s, 3 people in their 60s, 15 people in their 70s, 14 people in their 80s and 11 people in their 90s.

The large majority had underlying health issues – over half had significant health issues.

There are a further 4100 cases being cared for in their home by NSW Health via ‘hospital grade care’.

There are 1005 patients with COVID (was 1055 yesterday) in hospital, with 202 (210 yesterday) people in ICU, 99 (104 yesterday) of whom require ventilation.

There are 9528 active COVID cases in NSW.

There have been 58,158 locally acquired cases reported since June 16, when the first case in this outbreak was reported.
