COVID by the numbers – Sunday – no new Hawkesbury cases – “blood, sweat and no beers” ends Monday

This is the most up-to-date round-up of Hawkesbury COVID numbers you can get, compiled by numbers guru Kevin Pollard using NSW Health datasets.

Today’s headlines:

* No new COVID cases in the Hawkesbury today.

* There are 15 known active COVID cases in the Hawkesbury (was 21 yesterday).

* There are 338 active cases (was 368 yesterday) in the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District, which includes the Hawkesbury.

* Premier Dominic Perrottet has urged people to treat hospitality staff with respect as businesses prepare to reopen tomorrow. The Premier said this morning, “it’s been 100 days of blood, sweat and no beers but we have got there, and we’re back in action tomorrow.”

* NSW Health’s Dr Jeremy McAnulty said today: “There’s a number of suburbs of concern where we’re seeing the highest number of cases, these include: Merrylands, Rooty Hill, Dee Why, Mt Druitt and Cranebrook.”

Kevin Pollard tells us, “it’s the first time I have heard Cranebrook mentioned as an area of concern”.

There have been 48 new cases in Cranebrook, Castlereagh (the 2749 postcode) in the last 2 weeks: 7, 5, 1, 2, 5, 3, 0, 2, 3, 2, 3, 3, 1, 11.

The 11 new cases was the highest daily increase in Cranebrook during the pandemic.

* As of tomorrow, unvaccinated workers in NSW can return to work in disability services as these restrictions were attached to areas of concern which have now gone. Many clients in disability services including group homes have underlying health conditions and are ageing. They are extremely vulnerable and sometimes can’t be vaccinated.

* Governing medical regulator ATAGI will make a decision on Pfizer, AZ and Moderna booster shots with third shots expected to be 8 months away. Only one shot will be required this time, not two, with perhaps a further annual shot in 2023.

* Of the 477 new NSW cases cases (was 580 yesterday) reported to 8pm, Saturday, October 9 – 20 (was 41 yesterday, 35, 20, 33, 28, 15, 42 the days before that) are from Nepean Blue Mountains LHD.

* There are 6938 active COVID cases (was 7296 yesterday) in NSW.

* There have been 62,847 locally acquired cases reported since 16 June 2021, when the first case in this outbreak was reported.

* There were 86,155 COVID tests reported to 8pm last night, compared with the previous day’s: 79,894, 103,388, 112,186, 90,680, 85,642, 76,892, 88,210, 98,266 and 112,334 tests.

* 4 in the 2753 postcode (Richmond, Richmond Lowlands, Londonderry, Grose Vale, Grose Wold, Bowen Mountain, Hobartville, Yarramundi, Agnes Banks) – was 6 yesterday

* 3 in the 2754 postcode (North Richmond, Tennyson, The Slopes) – was 3 yesterday

* 1 in the 2758 postcode (Bilpin, East Kurrajong, Kurrajong, Kurrajong Heights, Kurrajong Hills, Mountain Lagoon, Wheeny Creek, Mount Tomah, Berambing, Blaxlands Ridge, Devils Wilderness) – was 1 yesterday

NSW COVID vaccination status (of cases during Delta outbreak from June 16 until October 9)

Based on NSW Health Surveillance Reports to September 18 and cases since.

433 COVID deaths: 69.1% not vaccinated (300 people), 17.6% had received 1 dose (76 people), 13.2% were fully vaccinated (57 people)

1084 in ICU: 84.7% not vaccinated, 10.9% had received 1 dose, 4.4% were fully vaccinated

8385 hospitalised: 80.9% not vaccinated, 10.4% had received 1 dose, 8.7% were fully vaccinated

62,847 cases: 78.7% not vaccinated, 12.9% had received 1 dose, 8.4% were fully vaccinated

Approximately 15,100 of the 62,847 cases in NSW since June 16 were those aged 0-11 years who are not eligible for a vaccine, 12-15 year olds before their first vaccine was available on September 13 and 16-18 year olds before their first vaccine was available on August 14.

Vaccinated numbers – in NSW, by the end of today, October 10 of those aged 16 and over:

16 years and over: 74.2% fully vaccinated and 90.7% first dose.

12-15 year olds: 17.4% fully vaccinated and 70.5% first dose.

All 8.2 million NSW residents (aged 0 and over): 60.1% fully vaccinated and 76.1% first dose.

All 25.9 million Australian residents (aged 0 and over): 50.2% fully vaccinated and 68.6% first dose.

NSW will reach 80% fully vaccinated (those 16 and over) by Saturday, October 16 with more restrictions lifted the following Monday, October 18.

COVID deaths and hospital numbers – 11 deaths in the last 24 hours – none in the Hawkesbury

NSW Health is reporting the deaths of 6 men who had COVID.

2 were in their 50s, 1 in their 60s, and 3 in their 70s.

One was from western Sydney, one from south eastern Sydney, two from south western Sydney, and two from southern New South Wales.

5 were not vaccinated, and 1 had received one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

A man in his 70s died at St George Hospital, where he acquired his infection. It is the 3rd death linked to an outbreak at the hospital.

A man in his 50s from southern NSW died at home.

A man in his 50s from southern NSW died at Canberra Hospital.

A man in his 70s died at Nepean Hospital, where he acquired his infection. It is the 8th death linked to an outbreak at the hospital.

There have been 433 COVID-19 related deaths in NSW since this Delta outbreak started on June 16.

At least 40 of the 433 have died at home, with 22 of them unaware they had COVID at the time of death.

At least 57 of the 433 COVID-related deaths in NSW since June 16 were fully vaccinated.

The 57 deaths among people fully vaccinated were 3 people in their 50s, 3 people in their 60s, 20 people in their 70s, 17 people in their 80s and 14 people in their 90s.

The large majority of the people that were fully vaccinated and died of COVID had underlying health issues, and over half had significant health issues.

There are 794 patients in hospital with COVID (was 812 yesterday), with 159 (163 yesterday) people in ICU, 76 (75 yesterday) of whom require ventilation.

Of the 159 in ICU: 114 (71.7%) are not vaccinated, 30 (18.9%) have had 1 dose and 15 (9.4%) are fully vaccinated.

13.8% of active cases are in hospital. 2.8% of active cases are in ICU.
