COVID by the numbers Wed – zero new Hawkesbury cases – 1000s of NSW teachers still need to be vaxxed

Nov 3, 2021

Welcome to Wednesday evening and our in-depth Hawkesbury numbers and COVID local news.

This round-up of Hawkesbury COVID numbers is compiled by numbers guru Kevin Pollard using NSW Health datasets, and is up to 8pm on Sunday evening.

Our thanks, as always, to Kevin for putting the numbers together in this easily accessible format.

Coupled with our regular news updates when we hear about new COVID venues, this builds into a useful daily source of information for Hawkesbury residents.

Today’s headlines:

* Zero new COVID cases in the last 24 hours in the Hawkesbury

* There are 10 active COVID cases in the Hawkesbury (was 11 yesterday)

* There are 106 active COVID cases (was 103 yesterday) in the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District, which includes the Hawkesbury.

* Of the 190 new NSW cases (was 173 yesterday and 135 the day before) reported to 8pm, Tuesday, November 2 – 15 are from Nepean Blue Mountains LHD.

* There have been at least 229 temporary school closures due to COVID in NSW since the beginning of Term 4 on October 5 (today is the 22nd school day).

* Meanwhile, the NSW Department of Education has hired 30 investigators to deal with the thousands of public school teachers who have flouted new employment conditions under health orders requiring them to be fully vaccinated by November 8 to keep their jobs. Some have left it to the last minute, with 1100 more vaccination confirmations in the last 36 hours, leaving 3800 teachers yet to notify NSW Department of Education.

* In the Nepean Blue Mountains LHD, there were 3 cases yesterday, 8, 3, 6, 13, 11, 9, 5, 9, 13, 6, 15, 10, 13, 27 on previous days.

* There are 3180 active COVID cases (was 3331 yesterday) in NSW.

* There were 114,303 COVID-19 tests reported to 8pm last night, compared with the previous days of 58,988, 62,857, 75,378, 77,271, 82,840, 89,678, 89,875, 71,352 and 59,612 tests.

* The 114,303 COVID tests reported today was the highest amount of tests since 30 September when 120,993 tests were reported.

* 0.17% of today’s tests in NSW came back positive (190 cases from 114,303 tests).

* It’s the lowest positivity rate in 130 days since July 26 when 151 cases were detected from 98,158 tests. The positivity rate was 0.15%.

* NSW Treasurer Matt Kean says he won’t rule out the reintroduction of COVID restrictions in NSW if cases surge.

* Premier Dominic Perrottet said today COVID cases and hospitalisations would rise again but said we needed to learn to live alongside the virus.

* Fully vaccinated close contacts of cases are no longer barred from NSW pubs, sporting matches, concerts after 7 days of isolation and testing negative on day 6. They have been asked to not visited aged care centres, hospitals, schools and childcare for a further 7 days after their initial 7 days of isolation.

* NSW Health have forbidden vaccinated international travellers flying into Sydney from visiting a restaurant, pub or a sporting match, as well as ‘high risk settings’, until they return a negative test on day 7.

* 17 Australians flew in from Poland to Sydney Airport with Emirates Airlines. Claimed to be fully vaccinated with Russia’s Sputnik vaccine – which is not recognised by the TGA for the purposes of entry into Australia. All were sent immediately into hotel quarantine where they’ll spend 14 days at their own cost. It’s a good sign the system is working.
