Federal candidates to answer community questions in the only forum open to everyone, this Wednesday
Hawkesbury Post is teaming up with a diverse range of community groups to hold a joint public forum under the banner of “Hawkesbury Meet the Candidates Forums” this coming Wednesday, May 11, where questions will be put to candidates vying for the Federal seat of Macquarie, currently held by Labor’s Susan Templeman.
This is the only community candidate forum open to the general public. Other business or interest groups forums are only available to their members.
Voting day is Saturday May 21 for the House of Representatives and there are 8 candidates in Macquarie – Australia’s most marginal seat, so the result will play a crucial role in deciding which political party holds power after the election.
As at 2.30pm on Thursday May 5, the candidates who have accepted the invitation to attend the community event are:
· Susan Templeman MP (Labor)
· Tony Pettit (One Nation)
· Sarah Richards (Liberal)
· Greg Keightley (Animal Justice Party)
· Nicole Evans (United Australia Party)
·
Candidate registrations will remain open until the day before the forum. The above list will be updated if there is any change.
The groups involved in the forum are:
BLORCAG (Bells Line of Road Community Action Group)
HRRA (Hawkesbury Ratepayers & Residents Action)
SNRTS (Sick of North Richmond Traffic Snarls)
HEN (Hawkesbury Environment Network)
CAWB (Community Action for Windsor Bridge)
NRDCAA (North Richmond & Districts Community Action Association Inc.)
Voting day is Saturday May 21 and there 8 candidates.
This will be an online event carried out via Zoom, and will be recorded and made available to watch later too.
Here’s the link so you can register to join the Zoom event and watch the live proceedings.
Hawkesbury Post is the region’s only daily news outlet and has a large and growing reach. The Post has over 17,000 followers on Facebook, over 14,000 Likes, and over 8000 subscribers to our news site – and the numbers grow every day.
Hawkesbury Meet the Candidates Forums is a page that was set up in 2016 and is only used to run forums and distribute information about elections in the Hawkesbury LGA, state Hawkesbury electorate and federal Macquarie electorate. Each time there’s an election, community groups from around the area are the hosts of a forum which is run as equitably as possible. It started up in response to candidate forums being heavily stacked by political parties.
