Hawkesbury COVID by the numbers – Thursday – 6 new cases in our postcodes 2753 and 2756

Sep 23, 2021

Welcome to Thursday evening and the latest in-depth Hawkesbury numbers and COVID local news – the numbers are up to 8pm on Wednesday night.

This is the most up-to-date round-up of Hawkesbury COVID numbers you can get, compiled by numbers guru Kevin Pollard using NSW Health datasets.

Our thanks, as always, to Kevin for putting the numbers together in this easily accessible format.

Coupled with our regular news updates when we hear about new COVID venues, this builds into a useful daily source of information for Hawkesbury residents.

Today’s headlines:

* 6 new Hawkesbury cases – 2 of them from an unknown source and not linked.

* There are 132 active COVID cases in Hawkesbury (was 139 yesterday)

* Of the 1063 new NSW cases (was 1035 yesterday) reported to 8pm, Wednesday, September 22 – 64 (was 62 yesterday) are from Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District, which includes the Hawkesbury.

* There are 661 active cases (was 633 yesterday) in the Nepean Blue Mountains LHD

* There were 139,182 COVID-19 tests reported to 8pm last night, compared with the previous day’s total of 133,839.

* There have been 50,123 locally acquired cases reported since June 16, when the first case in this outbreak was reported.

* Some 29,000 retired doctors, nurses, psychologists, pharmacists and other healthcare workers in NSW are being asked to consider returning to the workforce as an expected COVID ICU surge approaches. More than 8000 people in NSW were contacted yesterday to let them know they might be asked to re-join the healthcare system.

* NSW is on track to immunise 70% of the eligible population with two doses of a COVID vaccine by the end of Sunday, October 10 with the planned re opening of some businesses (for fully vaxxed people) to be the following day if new daily COVID case numbers are ‘moderate’ NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard said today.

* First doses are increasing by 0.4% per day and second dose approximately 0.8% each day.

* By the end of today, NSW will be at 84.2% first dose, 56.4% fully vaccinated.

* Mid-December is the likely date for some international travel from NSW once 80% of eligible NSW residents are fully vaccinated. Travel bubbles with certain countries are being worked through, as is home quarantine for Australian travellers once they return home.

* Which NSW Local Government Area and postcode will be the first to 100% first dose? At the moment, the Hawkesbury isn’t in the running…

LGAs as of the end of September 23 (eligible population)

The Hills Shire: 95.8% first dose, 68.4% two doses

Camden: 95.8% first dose, 58.8% two doses

Murray River: 95.8% first dose, 67.9% two doses

Ku-ring-gai: 94.1% first dose, 71.5% two doses

Gilgandra: 93.7% first dose, 57.4% two doses

Blacktown: 93.2% first dose, 57.6% two doses

* Only 2 NSW postcodes have 90%-plus first dose and 90%-plus two doses

Schofields (2762) in the Blacktown LGA

Edmondson Park (2174) in the Liverpool LGA

* Over 28% of NSW children aged 12 to 15 have had their first dose of a vaccine.

* Melbourne has broken a world record – but probably not one it wants… the world record for the most days in lockdown since the pandemic at 235, and has recorded 766 new daily COVID cases – the most Victoria has seen during the pandemic and the highest daily total since 700 new Victorian COVID cases were recorded on August 5, 2020.

* Argentinian capital Buenos Aires previously held the unfortunate lockdown record with 234 total days stuck in lockdown until today when it was surpassed by Melbourne. Buenos Aires (56,000) has 20 times more COVID deaths per population than Melbourne (833).

* Singapore recorded a pandemic-high, for them, of 1457 new cases yesterday after re-opening between August 10-17 when the eligible population was 75% fully vaxxed. Cases then were between 20-100 per day. Singapore is now 91% fully vaccinated (aged 12 and over) and cases are going sky high.

* 1457 cases per day in Singapore in a country of 5.7 million is the equivalent of approximately 6600 cases a day in Australia.
