Hawkesbury Floods Lost and Found returns again in bid to reunite owners with their possessions

Mar 21, 2022

Another heartbreaking flood has hit the Hawkesbury, which brings yet another search for lost possessions scattered throughout the Hawkesbury, and sometimes even further afield, carried off by raging flood waters.

And as he did last year, which was its first successful outing, Cumberland Reach resident Richie Benson has once again activated the Facebook page Hawkesbury Floods Lost and Found in an effort to reunite people with their possessions.

You can find it here. The page has grown by 850 members since the beginning of the floods, bringing the total group strength to an impressive 6300. “This year, we have seen possessions including kayaks, fridges, tables, farm equipment, water troughs, skis, boats, jet skis, pontoons, water tanks and “Spencer the Rhino” just to name a small handful,” says Richie.

“One story which really stands out to me,” he adds, “is a photo of a young boy –who is now 30 years old – with his dog. It was in Lyn’s river house at Wilberforce and sadly washed down the river and got caught on Diane’s neighbour’s wharf at Danger Island near Brooklyn. Lyn and Diane are in contact and are arranging a return of the prized item. In amongst all the devastation, this is such a rewarding story alongside so many others we are seeing daily.”

So if you’ve lost something in the floods, get on the Hawkesbury Floods Lost and Found page now and see if you can get reunited.
