Weeds After Fires workshop – Bilpin Hall Saturday – learn how to spot local weeds and eradicate them

May 25, 2022

The Weeds After Fires workshop at Bilpin Hall this Saturday aims to help the community reduce the risk of weed invasion by identifying and eradicating new high-risk weeds on properties in the area.

After the Black Summer bushfire swept through the region, landowners need to be on the lookout for high-risk weeds which can germinate and spread after a fire event.

Information will be given about which weeds specifically to look out for in the Bilpin area.

Phil Price, Biosecurity Weeds Coordinator from Hawkesbury River County Council, will be presenting information on how, after a bushfire, emergency response activities and rebuilding can move high risk weeds to new areas.

Mr Price will show how to minimise these risks.

Katherine Clare, who is the Local Landcare Coordinator for Hawkesbury-Nepean Landcare Network, will also talk about local Landcare activities and how to form local groups.

The workshop is being organised by Winmalee Neighbourhood Centre with the help of funding through the Bushfire Recovery and Resilience Fund.

This is a free event at Bilpin Hall at 2956 Bells Line of Road, and begins at 12:30pm with refreshments available.
