Hawkesbury Police gifted with Aboriginal Flag in sign of closer cooperation
The Commander of Hawkesbury Police Area Command, Superintendent Jim Stewart, received an Aboriginal Flag from representatives of the Merana Aboriginal Community Association today, Friday, as part of celebrations during the recent NAIDOC Week.
Talks were also held to outline plans for 2021 for local police to be involved in a number of activities with Richmond-based Merana to continue to build the relationship and have positive engagements.
Merana helps the local Aboriginal community with services, programs, cultural activities, special events and advocacy.
Chief Inspector Garry Sims APM, the Customer Service Duty Officer for Hawkesbury Police Area Command said, “I look forward to working on a number of projects next year that will only improve the relationship with the local Aboriginal community.
“The Hawkesbury has a shared history with Aboriginal people and together, we will achieve a great deal in the New Year and beyond. I want to say “thanks” for the generous gift of the Aboriginal Flag, which Superintendent Stewart was honoured to receive.”
