Kurrajong locals, businesses and Council pull together to get damaged Community Centre reopened

After a devastating aggravated break-in at Kurrajong Community Centre on Friday night which saw the centre trashed – and two local boys arrested by Hawkesbury Police’s Proactive Crime Team – locals, businesses and Hawkesbury Council have swung into action.

In the midnight break-in, several windows were broken, a fire hydrant was thrown through the community bus window and its contents sprayed throughout the centre. There was also a great deal of damage to the before and after school area and kitchen.

But on Saturday and through Sunday, people came together to ensure when before and after care children attend the centre at McMahons Park tomorrow as usual, it will be back to normal.

Hawkesbury City Council were on scene the following day and carried out immediate repairs to glass doors, windows and the damaged alarm system.

McMahon Park Management Committee President Colin Tindale was sweeping up broken glass Sunday morning.

Mel, Simon and Lilli Page from Deli La Na supplied coffees and partnered with Kurrajong Friendly Grocer to ensure the children have breakfast on Monday morning.

Kurrajong’s Goodie Goodie Gum Drops supplied lunch to the workers cleaning and decontaminating the premises.

Many Kurrajong locals also turned up to help.

And Hawkesbury Community Outreach Staff staff worked hard to ensure children could be welcomed as normal at before and after school care on Monday.

A 16-year-old boy from East Kurrajong and a 15-year-old Kurrajong boy have been charged with several offences by Hawkesbury Command’s Proactive Crime Team following the aggravated break and enter and malicious damage of the centre. Both were conditionally bailed to appear at Parramatta Childrens Court.
