No testing centres open in the Hawkesbury until Tuesday as local COVID cases continue to climb

Hawkesbury COVID test centres are all closed again today, as they have been since New Year’s Eve, and will not reopen until Tuesday, despite increasing cases across the Hawkesbury.

Yesterday, there were 135 new COVID cases recorded in the Hawkesbury and we now have 445 active cases – those numbers will almost certainly go up again today, and that’s despite Hawkesbury centres being closed.

It’s worth pointing out again that not all the new COVID cases are the seemingly more mild Omicron, there is also the far more potentially serious Delta in the mix too.

The Hawkesbury has a population of almost 68,000.

Hospital numbers are also increasing across NSW – we’ll have more on the specifics in our daily round-up this afternoon, but today’s figures show an 18% rise in the number of people in hospital in the last 24 hours.

Hospital numbers due to COVID have doubled since Christmas Day.

Clarendon was the single Hawkesbury test centre open on Thursday and Friday last week, but only for very short periods – on Thursday for just 2 hours. It opens again at 8am on Tuesday.

This morning – Sunday – Hawkesbury Police put out a social media post saying a test centre was open at Blacktown Showground carpark until 1pm today.

We’ve asked State MP Robyn Preston why no Hawkesbury centres were open over the holiday period, though the Hawkesbury centres are all privately run.

If we get a reply from the MP we’ll let you know.
