Richmond High School closed due to COVID case – HSC exams still on

Nov 10, 2021

Right in the middle of HSC exams, the 800-pupil Richmond High School is closing this afternoon after a student tested positive for COVID.

In a letter to parents just sent out this afternoon, Relieving Principal Tara Cullen said, “I would like to confirm with you that a member of our school community has tested positive for COVID-19.”

Last night a parent told the Post a Year 10 student had tested positive and had attended a party with other students, but we haven’t been able to independently confirm that.

“Our school will be non-operational effective immediately for the on-site attendance of students and staff to allow time for contact tracing and cleaning,” said Ms Cullen.

But Ms Cullen said students who are sitting HSC exams will continue at the school as planned.

All staff and students are asked to self-isolate until they receive further advice, says the statement.

There is no time-frame for reopening the school, but it should be a temporary measure.

There is no requirement to get a COVID-19 test at this time unless you are unwell.

NSW Health has requested anyone who has been unwell or if you develop any symptoms such as a fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, runny nose, loss of smell/taste, muscle/joint pains, diarrhoea, nausea/vomiting or extreme tiredness to be tested at one of the COVID-19 testing clinics.
