SAT COVID UPDATE – 825 NEW NSW CASES – HAWKESBURY CASES UP 4 T0 34

A massive increase in NSW COVID cases in the last 24 hours – some 825 new people infected.

According to the latest updated figures this morning – and the latest reporting system used by NSW Health – there is an increase in the Hawkesbury in the last 24 hours of 4 cases, bringing the current total to 34 cases.

Of the locally acquired NSW cases, 149 are linked to a known case or cluster – 116 are household contacts and 33 are close contacts – and the source of infection for 676 cases is under investigation and currently unknown.

At least 58 people have been infectious while out and about in the community.

“The virus is spreading, that’s a fact,” said Premier Gladys Berejiklian this morning.

Not in our area, but a party in Maroubra which had around 60 people attend it is just one example of some people not following the rules, said Deputy Police Commissioner Gary Warboys.

The Premier said 80% of the NSW population should be vaccinated by mid-November if current vaccination rates continue. That 80% number is when the state government has previously said will be the time restrictions could potentially be lifted.

There have been three deaths in the last 24 hours – none in the Hawkesbury – and in hospitals there are 516 patients, 85 are in ICU and 29 are on ventilators, 76 were not vaccinated and the remaining have had one dose.

“The health system in NSW is stretched,” said Health Minister Brad Hazzard this morning.
