SUN COVID UPDATE – HAWKESBURY CASES 38 – 830 NEW NSW CASES – 557 IN HOSPITAL IN NSW

Aug 22, 2021

On Sunday, Hawkesbury COVID cases currently number 38, and 20 of those are from unknown sources.

Yesterday after the official figures were first released at 34 COVID cases, another 4 were added. The updating of these figures is basically a day behind – today’s figures have just been revised (at 12.12pm) on one of the two maps that NSW Health use to Saturday 8pm August 21, but we expect those to be updated again soon and then we’ll revise them.

Hawkesbury Living (HL) care home in Richmond’s March St now has at least 6 staff members infected and 6 residents with COVID, according to the federal government’s weekly care home report released on Friday – the federal government are responsible for aged and care homes. We talked to HL’s CEO Kimberley Talbot yesterday – Saturday – and she said they have a NSW Health team there and all patients had been isolated. Ms Talbot said there will be a media release out on Monday, so we’ll get an up to date picture then.

Across NSW there were 830 new cases up to 8pm last night.

Of these locally acquired cases, 137 are linked to a known case or cluster – 118 are household contacts and 19 are close contacts – and the source of infection for 693 cases is under investigation.

Sixty-seven cases were in isolation throughout their infectious period and 19 were in isolation for part of their infectious period. Fifty cases were infectious in the community, and the isolation status of 694 cases remains under investigation.

Health Minister Brad Hazzard also reported 3 more deaths, none of those in the Hawkesbury, which brings to 71 the number of COVID related deaths since June.

There are 557 patients in NSW hospitals, and 94 of those are in ICU.

On the good news side of the ledger, Minister Hazzard claimed NSW was “now amongst the highest in the world in terms of vaccination rates”, with approximately 750,000 jabs given in the last 5 days.
