TUES COVID UPDATE – 356 NEW NSW CASES – THIRD INFECTIOUS IN COMMUNITY – HAWKESBURY NUMBERS DOWN

Aug 10, 2021

Cases of COVID continue to rise in NSW with a record 356 new COVID cases in the last 24 hours, a third of them were infectious in the community.

It’s a substantial increase,” said Premier Gladys Berejiklian this morning.

The news is better in the Hawkesbury though, where there is now a single case of COVID, down from the 6 of last week, so 5 have recovered from the virus.

The danger centres around local government areas adjacent to the Hawkesbury which are seeing increases in cases – particularly Blacktown LGA whose latest figures this morning show 400 confirmed cases, Penrith with 182 and Hills Shire totalling 32.

“There are still pockets of people who do not think this is a serious disease,” the Premier said today, and stressed people must get vaccinated to avoid hospital.

Fifty-seven cases were infectious in the community in the last 24 hours, and the isolation status of 157 remains under investigation.

The Premier said, “we have to accept that Delta is very different to other strains we have. You need to approach it in different ways. Based on the health expert advice vaccination reduces your chance of spreading, landing in hospital or dying.”
