Two arrested at Ebenezer this morning in connection with Blockade Australia protests – police
Further charges have been laid by members of Strike Force Guard as part of ongoing investigations into illegal protest activity, with the arrest this morning – Friday – of a man and woman at parkland in Ebenezer.
A 29-year-old man was arrested and charged with breach of bail. He is expected to be bail refused to appear at Penrith Local Court later today.
A 59-year-old woman was arrested and charged with wilfully obstruct police officer in execution of duty, and intimidate police officer. Police say it is expected she will be granted conditional bail.
The Sydney Morning Herald is reporting Ngemba elder Auntie Caroline Kirk was one of the two people arrested today and they say it was at a Blockade Australia campsite in Ebenezer. We haven’t had confirmation of that from NSW Police.
Today’s arrests follow the arrest of a 26-year-old woman on Monday at Springwood Train Station. She was charged with resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty, and breach of bail.
The NSW Police Force established Strike Force Guard in March this year to prevent, investigate and disrupt unauthorised protests across the state.
Since Sunday, 10 people have been arrested and charged under Strike Force Guard in connection with the Colo raid. They remain before the courts.
In a statement put out by Blockade Australia on Monday, whose camp just off the Putty Rd was raided by over 100 police on Sunday, the group claimed, “Police breached multiple protocols in their interactions with us, denying virtually every civil liberty there is.”
