Bilpin’s Tutti Fruitti told by Council they need to move entrance sign after 18 years or be fined

Bilpin’s iconic Tutti Fruitti have been told to move their entrance sign – the only surviving part of the business after the Black Summer bushfires burnt everything down and it’s been there for 18 years – and one other just outside their property, or potentially face fines.

As owner Cynthia Demmocks says, “and it is extra sad for us because it is the only piece of Tutti Fruitti that did not burn down in the fires!”

The well known establishment has only just really got back on its feet following the last devastating bushfires, so this is another blow…

“Surely Council could spend their time concentrating on more important matters!,” says Ms Demmocks.

The RMS are the authority which oversees Bells Line of Road, so the demand for the signs to be moved is likely to have come from them, but the Council is responsible for enforcing any compliance issues.

“We had a visit from Council who have advised us that we have to remove our new signs (along the fenceline). So today we are moving these signs inside the fenceline which is apparently acceptable.

“Council tell us that we are only being made to move these signs because someone complained about them – if this is true then it is a sad reflection on our community – but who knows if that is the real reason?

“And what about our neighbours? They all have signs outside their fencelines, so why have we become the chosen one?

” But the icing on the cake is that we have been told that we also have to remove our big Tutti Fruitti entrance sign. This sign has been in this same location for 18 years – so why has it become an issue now? And it is extra sad for us because it is the only piece of Tutti Fruitti that did not burn down in the fires!

“We have been told we will be facing a hefty fine if we do not remove signs by Monday.”

Ms Demmocks adds, “surely Council could spend their time concentrating on more important matters!”
