Body of missing 32-year-old swimmer recovered from Hawkesbury River near Wisemans Ferry

Jan 19, 2022

The body of a man who went missing while swimming in the Hawkesbury River on Monday has been found this afternoon at Laughtondale near Wisemans Ferry.

About 6.10pm on Monday, emergency services were called to the Hawkesbury River at Laughtondale, following reports of a missing swimmer.

Police were told a 32-year-old man – who was on a houseboat with family and friends – went for a swim near the boat and failed to resurface.

According to Hawkesbury Police, about 6pm on the Monday, the man and his family and friends were on the houseboat when the men and two children decided to use the tender, on approaching the rear of the house boat the male dived from the tender to swim the short distance to the house boat. He dived and surfaced near the ladder, dived again and did not surface. The other men searched but couldn’t find the man, and emergency services were called.

Officers from Hawkesbury Police Area Command, with assistance from the Marine Area Command, Marine Rescue NSW, Maritime Services, NSW State Emergency Services (SES), Westpac Rescue Helicopter, and local boaters, began searching for the man on Monday.

Following an extensive search, the man’s body was found in the river at 2.50pm today – Wednesday.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
