Call goes out for Registered Nurses to help with Hawkesbury COVID vaccinations

Jul 23, 2021

More registered nurses are needed to help vaccinate the Hawkesbury community against COVID and an appeal has gone out this afternoon from Wentworth Healthcare (WH), the provider of the Nepean Blue Mountains Primary Health Network, calling on local nurses to join the effort.

“This pandemic is a once in 100 year event, and we are calling on nurses in our local community to be part of history and to join the fight against this insidious disease by helping to vaccinate our community,” said Wentworth Healthcare CEO, Lizz Reay.

At the moment, the Pfizer vaccine – which people up to the age of 60 would normally be given – is in relatively short supply, but WH wants to be in a good position when more vaccines arrive in Australia.

“As more vaccine doses become available nationally in the coming months, they’re going to need more nurses to help administer the vaccines,” Ms Reay said.

“We are calling on local registered nurses who can spare even one or two days a week to consider joining the effort to help vaccinate our community. Competitive casual rates of pay will apply.”

“We are proud that so many of our local general practices have signed up to be COVID-19 vaccine providers and that they are rising to the many challenges of this national roll-out,” said Ms Reay.

“General practices are working really hard to vaccinate our community on top of all their usual patient care.

Across the Nepean Blue Mountains region, which covers the Hawkesbury, Blue Mountains, Lithgow and Penrith local government areas, there are 86 general practices and three GP-led Respiratory Clinics delivering COVID-19 vaccinations.

Wentworth Healthcare is helping to coordinate the recruitment of registered nurses for the local COVID-19 vaccination effort and will link suitable candidates up with a GP-led Respiratory Clinic or general practice in need of more nurses.

Requirements

• Current registration with Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse

• Current CPR certificate

• Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality

• Previous experience in a general practice or primary care setting is preferred, but not essential

• Current nurse immuniser certificate is an advantage, but not essential

Full certified training will be provided through the COVID-19 Vaccination Training Program, developed by the Department of Health, in partnership with the Australian College of Nursing.

Registered nurses can find out more and express their interest in being involved on the Wentworth Healthcare website at www.nbmphn.com.au/RNsWanted
