COVID by the numbers Monday – 1 new Hawkesbury case – facemasks mandatory at HSC exams

Welcome to Tuesday evening and our in-depth Hawkesbury numbers and COVID local news.

This round-up of Hawkesbury COVID numbers is compiled by numbers guru Kevin Pollard using NSW Health datasets, and is up to 8pm on Monday evening.

Our thanks to Kevin for putting the numbers together and compiling the news snippets in this easily accessible format.

Coupled with our regular news updates when we hear about new COVID venues, this builds into a useful daily source of information for Hawkesbury residents.

 
 

Today’s headlines:

 

* 1 new COVID case in the Hawkesbury recorded in the last 24 hours – case is linked to another.

 

* There are 13 active COVID cases in the Hawkesbury (was 12 yesterday)

 

* There are 79 active cases (was 83 yesterday) in the Nepean Blue Mountains LHD, which includes the Hawkesbury.

 

* Of the 224 new NSW COVID cases (187, 244, 270 cases on previous days) reported to 8pm, Monday, November 8 – four are from Nepean Blue Mountains LHD.

* In the Nepean Blue Mountains LHD, there were 3 cases yesterday, 3, 6, 3, 14, 15, 3, 8, 3, 6, 13, 11, 9, 5, 9 on previous days.

 

* There are 2817 active cases (was 2898 yesterday) in NSW.

 

* There were 66,680 COVID-19 tests reported to 8pm last night, compared with the previous days of 52,939, 70,276, 72,350, 80,581, 94,661, 114,303, 58,988 tests.

 

* 105 of today’s 224 cases were in Sydney. Outside of Sydney, 62 are from Hunter New England LHD, 33 are from Murrumbidgee LHD and 8 are from Mid North Coast LHD.

 

* NSW students sat their first HSC exam this morning, with facemasks mandatory during the examination.

 

* Following a four-week delay, 62,000 Year 12 students took the English paper under COVID-safe conditions.

 

* There have been at least 286 temporary school closures due to COVID in NSW since the beginning of Term 4 on October 5 (today is the 26th school day).

 

* 200 ICU patients from across Australia enrolled in a national study into the long-term effects of COVID on critically ill patients. More than 70% reported suffering persistent symptoms 6 months after they were hospitalised with COVID.

 

* The most common symptom was shortness of breath, followed by impaired function and being unable to do usual activities, plus fatigue, headaches, a loss of strength and a loss of taste or smell.

 

* Cricket will be the first major Australian team sport to declare itself fully vaccinated come early December, with every professional player having already had their first COVID vaccine dose. National players were already fully vaccinated by September, domestic players’ second-dose rate is 97%.

 

* The AFL has mandated vaccines but the NRL and the A-League and W-League have not.

 

* QLD will ditch masks in all indoor settings after the state hits the 80% (16+) first dose tomorrow. QLD has only had 9 local cases in the last 30 days.

 

* In NSW, masks in all indoor settings will be dropped once the state reaches 95% fully vaxxed (16+), which probably won’t happen until early January.

 

* NSW Health is urging anyone who attended the funeral of Cheryl Harland at the North Chapel of Pinegrove Memorial Park in Minchinbury on Saturday 30 October at 10am, or the subsequent wake held at a private residence in Llandilo on Saturday 30 October and Sunday 31 October, to come forward for COVID testing.

 

* 30 people were permitted inside the chapel for the funeral and proof of full vaccination had to be shown upon entry. The wake was attended by approximately 50 people at a private residence in Llandilo.

 

* 8 people have since tested positive for COVID (4 of the 8 are fully vaccinated).

* Anyone who attended either the funeral or the wake is a close contact and must immediately get tested.

 

* Llandilo is in the 2747 postcode (Caddens) and this postcode has recorded 5 new cases in the last 6 days. There were 3 new cases in the nearby Cranebrook 2749 postcode today and 5 new cases on November 3.

 

* Victoria has recorded 1069 new COVID cases plus 10 deaths after 1,126 cases yesterday. There have been 317 COVID deaths in Victoria over the last 34 days.

* 3 in the 2758 postcode (Bilpin, East Kurrajong, Kurrajong, Kurrajong Heights, Kurrajong Hills, Mountain Lagoon, Wheeny Creek, Mount Tomah, Berambing, Blaxlands Ridge, Devils Wilderness) – was 3 yesterday

 

* 2 in the 2753 postcode (Richmond, Londonderry, Grose Vale, etc) – was 1 yesterday

 

* 0 in the 2754 postcode (North Richmond, Tennyson, The Slopes) – was 0 yesterday

 
 

COVID deaths and hospital numbers – 4 deaths in the last 24 hours – none in the Hawkesbury

NSW Health is today reporting the deaths of 4 people with COVID – 2 women and 2 men.

 

1 person was in their 50s, 2 were in their 80s, and 1 was in their 90s.

 

3 were from south western Sydney and 1 was from Albury.

 

3 people were not vaccinated and 1, a woman in her 80s, had received one dose of a COVID vaccine.

 

A woman in her 90s was a resident at the Mercy Place aged care facility in Albury, where she acquired her infection. She was not vaccinated. There have been 9 deaths linked to an outbreak at this facility.

 

There have been 550 COVID-related deaths in NSW since this Delta outbreak started on June 16.

 

At least 42 of the 550 have died at home, and of those 24 didn’t know they had COVID at the time of death.

 

At least 88 of the 550 COVID-related deaths in NSW since June 16 were fully vaccinated.

 

The 88 deaths among people fully vaccinated were 4 people in their 50s, 5 people in their 60s, 27 people in their 70s, 28 people in their 80s, 23 people in their 90s and 1 person in their 100s.

 

The large majority of the people that were fully vaccinated and died of COVID had underlying health issues, over half had significant health issues, almost a quarter were in palliative care, many were elderly and in aged care facilities, some had disabilities.

 

6.24 million of NSW’s 8.2 million residents are fully vaccinated, 88 of those that were fully vaccinated died of the virus.

 

There are 254 people with COVID (was 264 yesterday) in hospital, with 42 (48 yesterday) in ICU, 20 (20 yesterday) of whom require ventilation.

 

There have been 71,340 locally acquired cases reported since June 16, when the first case in this outbreak was reported.

 
 

Vaccinated numbers – in NSW, by the end of today, November 9

16 years and over: 90.2% fully vaccinated and 93.98% first dose.

 

12-15 year olds: 71.7% fully vaccinated and 80.6% first dose.

 

16-19 year olds: 79.5% fully vaccinated and 90.4% first dose.

 

All 8.2 million NSW residents (aged 0 and over): 75.9% fully vaccinated and 81.4% first dose.

 

All 25.9 million Australian residents (aged 0 and over): 67.8% fully vaccinated and 75.4% first dose.

550 COVID deaths: 64.9% not vaccinated (357 people), 19.1% had received 1 dose (105 people), 16% were fully vaccinated (88 people).

 

1305 in ICU: 85.6% not vaccinated, 7.8% had received 1 dose, 4.5% were fully vaccinated

 

11,835 hospitalised: 85.6% not vaccinated, 8.2% had received 1 dose, 6.5% were fully vaccinated

 

71,340 cases: 77.9% not vaccinated, 13.3% had received 1 dose, 8.8% were fully vaccinated.
