COVID by the numbers – Sunday – 6 new Hawkesbury cases over last 3 days – schools ramp up tomorrow

Welcome to Sunday afternoon and the latest in-depth Hawkesbury numbers and COVID local news – the numbers are up to 8pm on Saturday night.

 

This weekend we didn’t write up full reports on Friday and Saturday – apologies for that, and normal service is now resumed – so we add and highlight those numbers today.

This is the most up-to-date round-up of Hawkesbury COVID numbers you can get, compiled by numbers guru Kevin Pollard using NSW Health datasets.

Coupled with our regular news updates when we hear about new COVID venues, this builds into a useful daily source of information for Hawkesbury residents.

 
 

Today’s headlines:

 

* Friday – there were 3 new Hawkesbury cases reported up to 8pm on Thursday – in the 2756 postcode – Windsor, Sackville, Wilberforce, Bligh Park, Clarendon, Ebenezer, Mulgrave, Pitt Town, South Windsor, Freemans Reach, McGraths Hill, Upper Colo, Central Colo, Colo Heights, Lower Portland, Glossodia.

 

* Saturday – cases reported up to 8pm on Friday – no new cases in the Hawkesbury.

 

* Sunday – numbers up to 8pm Saturday night – there are 3 new cases in the Hawkesbury, 2 of which are from an unknown source and not linked.

 

* There are 21 active COVID cases in the Hawkesbury (was 21 two days ago)

 

* Of the 301 new NSW cases (was 319 yesterday) reported to 8pm, Saturday, October 16 – 6 are from Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District, which includes the Hawkesbury.

 

* School’s in – Kindergarten, year 1 and year 12 NSW students return to face-to-face schooling on Monday, and other years will follow on October 25.

 

* In the last 12 days, since the start of Term 4 on Tuesday October 5, at least 56 schools have been temporarily closed in NSW due to a COVID case.

 

* This was when schools were at minimal capacity, and before schools in Greater Sydney, which includes the Hawkesbury, re-open.

 

* Dr Kerry Chant said today – Sunday – that with schools returning on Monday it was important to be aware that children can experience very mild COVID symptoms.

 

Chant: “Even if they have the most minimal of symptoms, keep them home from school and have the family tested.”

 

* From tomorrow, masks continue to be mandatory for all indoor premises and settings, except office buildings.

 

* There were 69,107 COVID-19 tests reported to 8pm last night, compared with the previous days: 66,311, 85,000, 85,133, 88,988, 83,948, 86,155, 79,894, 103,388, 112,186 tests.

 

* 0.436% of today’s tests in NSW came back positive. It’s the 6th day in a row in NSW where the positive rate was a low 0.40% to 0.48%. The highest was 1.21% positive on September 7 (1222 cases from 100,745 tests).

 

* Over 5 million of NSW’s 8.2 million residents are fully vaccinated, 65 of those who were fully vaccinated have died of the virus.

 

* There are 5121 active COVID cases (was 5253 yesterday) in NSW.

 
 

New COVID cases in the Hawkesbury by postcode

 

* 2 in the 2758 postcode (Bilpin, East Kurrajong, Kurrajong, Kurrajong Heights, Kurrajong Hills, Mountain Lagoon, Wheeny Creek, Mount Tomah, Berambing, Blaxlands Ridge, Devils Wilderness)

 

* 1 in the 2756 postcode (Windsor, Sackville, Wilberforce, etc)

 

Total active COVID cases in the Hawkesbury – and postcodes they are in

* 16 in the 2756 postcode (Windsor, Sackville, Wilberforce, etc) – was 15 two days ago

 

* 3 in the 2758 postcode (Bilpin, East Kurrajong, etc) – was 1 two days ago

 

* 2 in the 2753 postcode (Richmond, Richmond Lowlands, Londonderry, Grose Vale, Grose Wold, Bowen Mountain, Hobartville, Yarramundi, Agnes Banks) – was 2 two days ago

 

* 0 in the 2754 postcode (North Richmond, Tennyson, The Slopes) – was 3 two days ago

 

COVID deaths and hospital numbers – 10 deaths in the last 24 hours – none in the Hawkesbury

 

NSW Health is today reporting the deaths of 10 people – 5 women and 5 men.

 

Two were in their 50s, two in their 60s, two people were in their 70s, three were in their 80s and one person was in their 90s.

 

Three people were from south western Sydney, two people were from southern Sydney, two people were from south eastern Sydney, one person was from the Central Coast, one person was from the Newcastle area, and one person was from the Cessnock area.

 

5 of the people who died were not vaccinated, 1 person had received one dose of a COVID vaccine, and 4 people were fully vaccinated.

 

A woman in her 80s from south western Sydney died at Liverpool Hospital, where she acquired her infection. This is the 12th death linked to this outbreak. She was not vaccinated and had underlying health conditions.

 

A man in his 80s from south eastern Sydney died at Prince of Wales Hospital, where he acquired his infection. He was fully vaccinated and had underlying health conditions.

 

A man in his 90s died at Prince of Wales Hospital. He was a resident of the Southern Cross Care Daceyville aged care facility, where he acquired his infection. This is the first death linked to an outbreak at the facility. He had received one dose of a COVID vaccine and had underlying health conditions.

 

There have been 472 COVID-related deaths in NSW since this Delta outbreak started on June 16.

 

At least 41 of the 472 have died at home, and 23 of them didn’t know they had COVID at the time of death.

 

At least 69 of the 472 COVID-related deaths in NSW since June 16 were fully vaccinated.

 

The 69 deaths among people fully vaccinated were 3 people in their 50s, 4 people in their 60s, 23 people in their 70s, 22 people in their 80s and 17 people in their 90s.

 

The large majority of the people that were fully vaccinated and died of COVID had underlying health issues, with over half having significant health issues.

 

There are currently 619 patients with (was 652 yesterday) in hospital, with 137 (138 yesterday) people in ICU, 71 (73 yesterday) of whom require ventilation.

 

27 days ago on 21 September, NSW had 1268 in hospital, 242 in ICU, 118 of whom require ventilation. That was – so far – the peak of those in hospital and in ICU.

 

There have been 65,563 locally acquired cases reported since 16 June 2021, when the first case in this outbreak was reported.

 

Vaccinated numbers – in NSW, by the end of today, October 17

 

16 years and over: 80.9% fully vaccinated and 92.4% first dose.

 

12-15 year olds: 35.3% fully vaccinated and 75.6% first dose.

 

16-19 year olds: 62.2% fully vaccinated and 85.8% first dose.

 

All 8.2 million NSW residents (aged 0 and over): 63.2% fully vaccinated and 78.2% first dose.

 

All 25.9 million Australian residents (aged 0 and over): 55.7% fully vaccinated and 71.1% first dose.

 

NSW reached 80% fully vaccinated (those 16 and over) on Saturday, October 16 with more restrictions lifted the following Monday, October 18.

8365 hospitalised: 80.2% not vaccinated, 11.1% had received 1 dose, 8.7% were fully vaccinated

 

65,563 cases: 77.9% not vaccinated, 13.3% had received 1 dose, 8.8% were fully vaccinated
