COVID by the numbers Sunday – no new Hawkesbury cases this weekend – big daily increases globally

Welcome to Sunday evening and our in-depth Hawkesbury numbers and COVID local news.

This round-up of Hawkesbury COVID numbers is compiled by numbers guru Kevin Pollard using NSW Health datasets, and is up to 8pm on Saturday evening.

We didn’t put an update together yesterday – unfortunately other stories got in the way – but there were no new Hawkesbury cases on Saturday.

Coupled with our regular news updates when we hear about new COVID venues, this builds into a useful daily source of information for Hawkesbury residents.

Today’s headlines:

* Zero new COVID cases recorded in the Hawkesbury in the last 48 hours.

* There are 8 active COVID cases in the Hawkesbury (was 10 yesterday).

* There are 73 active COVID cases (was 72 yesterday) in the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District, which includes the Hawkesbury.

* Of the 195 new NSW cases (250, 286 cases on previous days) reported to 8pm, Saturday, November 13 – six are from Nepean Blue Mountains LHD.

* In the Nepean Blue Mountains LHD, there were 6 cases yesterday, 9, 1, 5, 4, 3, 3, 6, 3, 14, 15, 3, 8, 3, 6, 13 cases on previous days.

* There were 57,878 COVID-19 tests reported to 8pm last night, compared with the previous days of 58,915, 77,119, 77,009, 95,804, 66,680, 52,939 tests.

* 109 of today’s 195 new NSW cases were in Sydney (55.9%)

* There are 2901 active COVID cases (was 2937 yesterday) in NSW.

* Australia’s COVID vaccine rollout boss, Lieutenant-General John Frewen, said the vaccine rollout for 5 to 11 year olds could begin, if approved by ATAGI and the TGA at the start of January 2022. If approved he expected the program would ramp up in late January in time for school returning after summer holidays.

* Returned international travellers owe NSW more than $110 million for their hotel quarantine. While VIC, SA, TAS and the ACT have been paying NSW in line with the Board of Treasurers’ agreement for travellers who quarantined in NSW, payment of invoices totalling $65.85 million by QLD, WA and NT remain outstanding.

* From tomorrow, NSW Health will also no longer list case locations for regional and rural NSW on its website. This change has already been made for case locations in Greater Sydney, including the Central Coast, Wollongong and Shellharbour, and the Hawkesbury.

* Service NSW will continue sending push notifications to people who have checked in at venues where a case was present at the same time they were there.

* NSW Health and Local Health Districts will continue to notify the public of venues of concern where there have been high levels of transmission, and there is a need to alert members of the community who may have been there during the exposure period.

Meanwhile, around the world…

* Austria reports 13,152 new coronavirus cases, the biggest one-day increase on record.

* Slovakia reports 7244 new coronavirus cases, the biggest one-day increase on record for the country.

* Russia reports 1241 new coronavirus deaths, the biggest one-day increase on record.

* NZ reports 207 new coronavirus cases, the biggest one-day increase on record.

* Denmark reports 4585 new coronavirus cases, The biggest one-day increase on record. Denmark ditched its COVID rules two months ago and declared COVID was no longer “an illness which is a critical threat to society.”

* Holland vowed COVID lockdowns would be a thing of the past, but has now backflipped after cases soared. They are now in a partial lockdown.

* In England and the US, hundreds of children that had no symptoms after contracting COVID have ended up with Long Covid. Some of these were seriously ill and ended up with a disability.

* There have been at least 334 temporary school closures due to COVID in NSW since the beginning of Term 4 on October 5 (29 school days). Primary schools have accounted for 72% of total closures.

* Victoria recorded 905 new COVID cases plus 4 deaths after 1221 new cases yesterday. There have been 352 COVID deaths in Victoria over the last 39 days.

* 1 in the 2758 postcode (Bilpin, East Kurrajong, Kurrajong, Kurrajong Heights, Kurrajong Hills, Mountain Lagoon, Wheeny Creek, Mount Tomah, Berambing, Blaxlands Ridge, Devils Wilderness) – was 3 yesterday

COVID deaths and hospital numbers – 1 death in the last 24 hours – none in the Hawkesbury

NSW Health is today reporting the death of a man in his 80s from the Blue Mountains at Nepean Hospital Penrith. He was fully vaccinated and had underlying health conditions.

This is the first death linked to an outbreak at Springwood Hospital where he acquired his infection.

There have been 557 COVID-related deaths in NSW since this Delta outbreak started on June 16.

At least 42 of the 557 have died at home and of those, 24 didn’t know they had COVID at the time of death.

At least 90 of the 557 COVID-related deaths in NSW since June 16 were people who were fully vaccinated.

The 90 deaths among people fully vaccinated were 4 people in their 50s, 5 people in their 60s, 28 people in their 70s, 29 people in their 80s, 23 people in their 90s and 1 person in their 100s.

The large majority of the people that were fully vaccinated and died of COVID had underlying health issues, over half had significant health issues, almost a quarter were in palliative care, many were elderly and in aged care facilities, some had disabilities.

6.27 million of NSW’s 8.2 million residents are fully vaccinated, 90 of those that were fully vaccinated died of the virus.

There are 224 people with COVID (was 228 yesterday) in hospital, with 32 (32 yesterday) in ICU, 16 (16 yesterday) of whom require ventilation.

There have been 72,548 locally acquired cases reported since 16 June 2021, when the first case in this outbreak was reported.

Vaccinated numbers – in NSW, by the end of today, November 14

16 years and over: 91.3% fully vaccinated and 94.21% first dose.

12-15 year olds: 74.4% fully vaccinated and 80.9% first dose.

16-19 year olds: 80.2% fully vaccinated and 90.7% first dose.

All 8.2 million NSW residents (aged 0 and over): 76.8% fully vaccinated and 79.9% first dose.

All 25.9 million Australian residents (aged 0 and over): 69.7% fully vaccinated and 76.3% first dose.

557 COVID deaths: not vaccinated (361 people), had received 1 dose (106 people), were fully vaccinated (90 people).

1323 in ICU: 85.6% not vaccinated, 7.8% had received 1 dose, 4.5% were fully vaccinated

11,871 hospitalised: 85.8% not vaccinated, 8.1% had received 1 dose, 6.4% were fully vaccinated

72,548 cases: 77.9% not vaccinated, 13.3% had received 1 dose, 8.8% were fully vaccinated.
