COVID by the numbers Thursday – 4 new Hawkesbury cases – 49% of NSW cases in last 7 days aged 0-19

Welcome to Thursday evening and our in-depth Hawkesbury numbers and COVID local news.

This round-up of Hawkesbury COVID numbers is compiled by numbers guru Kevin Pollard using NSW Health datasets, and is up to 8pm on Wednesday evening.

Coupled with our regular news updates when we hear about new COVID venues, this builds into a useful daily source of information for Hawkesbury residents.

 

Today’s headlines:

* 4 new COVID cases in the Hawkesbury – 2 from an unknown source and not linked.

* There are 13 active COVID cases in the Hawkesbury (was 10 yesterday)

* 49% of the new cases in NSW in the last 7 days have been those aged 0-19 years.

* Children are almost as likely as adults to become infected with COVID and transmit the virus, but they are far less likely to have symptoms, according to a new US study.

* The 308 new COVID cases today in NSW is the highest number in 13 days – since 332 cases to 8pm on October 22.

* The positivity rate of 0.33% today (308 cases from 94,661 tests) is the highest in 8 days (28 October) – 293 cases from 89,678 tests, a 0.33% positivity rate.

* Of the 308 new NSW cases (190, 173 & 135 cases on previous days) reported to 8pm, Wednesday, November 3 – 14 are from Nepean Blue Mountains LHD.

* There are 108 active cases (was 106 yesterday) in the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District, which includes the Hawkesbury.

* In the Nepean Blue Mountains LHD, there were 15 cases yesterday, 3, 8, 3, 6, 13, 11, 9, 5, 9, 13, 6, 15, 10, 13, 27 on previous days.

* There are 3144 active cases (was 3180 yesterday) in NSW.

* There have been at least 237 school closures due to COVID in NSW since the beginning of Term 4 on October 5 (today is the 23rd school day).

* There were 94,661 COVID-19 tests reported to 8pm last night, compared with the previous days of 114,303, 58,988, 62,857, 75,378, 77,271, 82,840 tests.

* 126 of the 308 new NSW cases were in Sydney. Outside of Sydney, Hunter New England LHD had 103 cases and Murrumbidgee LHD had 36 cases.

* 39 of the 103 new cases in Hunter New England LHD were in Moree and linked to a large funeral for a 22-year-old indigenous man, Gordon Copeland. This funeral was held in the town on October 28 and was a significant event at the time.

8 The US has started giving Pfizer vaccines to children aged 5 to 11 today, with 28 million school-age kids now eligible for the shots at their parents/carers discretion.

* NSW has linked up COVID alerts with the check in system so if you check in somewhere that has a recorded case at the relevant time, Service NSW contacts you and lets you know you were in a location with a positive case.

* NSW Health are urging people, even if they are fully vaccinated, to continue to come forward for testing if they have the mildest of symptoms. High testing rates are vital for detecting cases early and preventing onward transmission.

* The first vaccine dose rate in NSW has increased by an average of .06% each day over the last 10 days since October 26. If this rate continues, 95% (16+) first dose will be reached in 21 days on November 25

* On average, it’s 5 weeks between the first and second dose, so we’re looking at January 1 for 95% fully vaxxed in NSW (16+).

* Premier Perrottet said three days ago that NSW will ‘open’ to unvaxxed on December 15 regardless of if 95% fully vaxxed is reached on this date, but, of course, this could change.

* Australians can now holiday overseas, but not all travel insurance covers COVID disruptions. Australians are urged to double check the fine print. Maybe worth looking too at some of the COVID infection and death numbers in some countries…

* 350 of the 430 (81%) COVID deaths in Singapore have come since September 28 – in the last 37 days. Singapore has recorded 3,000-plus daily cases, 29 of the last 30 days with 5324 being the peak on October 27.

Russia reports 1189 new COVID deaths, the biggest one-day increase on record, and 40,443 new cases – the third highest during the pandemic (40,993 was the highest four days ago). There have been 242,060 recorded pandemic COVID deaths in Russia but many believe the true death toll to be closer to 700,000.

There have been 912,340 excess deaths in Russia since the pandemic started with at least half of those most likely being COVID deaths.

* 1 in the 2758 postcode (Bilpin, East Kurrajong, Kurrajong, Kurrajong Heights, Kurrajong Hills, Mountain Lagoon, Wheeny Creek, Mount Tomah, Berambing, Blaxlands Ridge, Devils Wilderness)

Total active COVID cases in the Hawkesbury – and postcodes they are in

* 7 in the 2756 postcode (Windsor, Sackville, Wilberforce, etc) – was 5 yesterday

* 5 in the 2758 postcode (Bilpin, East Kurrajong, etc) – was 4 yesterday

* 1 in the 2753 postcode (Richmond, Richmond Lowlands, Londonderry, Grose Vale, Grose Wold, Bowen Mountain, Hobartville, Yarramundi, Agnes Banks) – was 1 yesterday

* 0 in the 2754 postcode (North Richmond, Tennyson, The Slopes) – was 0 yesterday

COVID deaths and hospital numbers – 4 deaths in the last 24 hours – none in the Hawkesbury

NSW Health is today reporting the deaths of 4 people – 3 men and 1 woman.

One person was in their 30s, one person was in their 70s, and two people were in their 80s.

Two people were from south western Sydney, one person was from western Sydney and one person was from the Shellharbour area.

Two people were not vaccinated and two people – both in their 80s and with underlying health conditions were fully vaccinated.

A 38-year-old woman from western Sydney died at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. She was not vaccinated and had underlying health conditions.

A man in his 80s died at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. He was a resident of the Greek Orthodox Community Home for the Aged in Earlwood, where he acquired his infection.

There have been 532 COVID-related deaths in NSW since this Delta outbreak started on June 16.

At least 42 of the 532 have died at home, and of those 24 didn’t know they had COVID at the time of death.

At least 85 of the 532 COVID-related deaths in NSW since June 16 were people who were fully vaccinated.

The 85 deaths among people fully vaccinated were 4 people in their 50s, 5 people in their 60s, 27 people in their 70s, 27 people in their 80s, 21 people in their 90s and 1 person in their 100s.

The large majority of the people that were fully vaccinated and died of COVID had underlying health issues, over half had significant health issues, almost a quarter were in palliative care, some had disabilities.

6.15 million of NSW’s 8.2 million residents are fully vaccinated, 85 of those that were fully vaccinated died of the virus.

There are 302 people with COVID (was 309 yesterday) in hospital, with 64 (68 yesterday) in ICU, 31 (32 yesterday) of whom require ventilation.

There have been 70,211 locally acquired cases reported since June 16, when the first case in this outbreak was reported.

Vaccinated numbers – in NSW, by the end of today, November 4

16 years and over: 89.1% fully vaccinated and 93.85% first dose.

12-15 year olds: 67.9% fully vaccinated and 80.1% first dose.

16-19 year olds: 78.0% fully vaccinated and 90.0% first dose.

All 8.2 million NSW residents (aged 0 and over): 75.2% fully vaccinated and 80.9% first dose.

All 25.9 million Australian residents (aged 0 and over): 65.8% fully vaccinated and 74.9% first dose.

532 COVID deaths: 65.4% were not vaccinated (348 people), 18.6% had received 1 dose (99 people), 16.0% were fully vaccinated (85 people).

1291 in ICU: 85.6% not vaccinated, 7.8% had received 1 dose, 4.5% were fully vaccinated

11,797 hospitalised: 85.6% not vaccinated, 8.2% had received 1 dose, 6.5% were fully vaccinated

70,211 cases: 77.9% not vaccinated, 13.3% had received 1 dose, 8.8% were fully vaccinated.
