Hawkesbury schools get $1.13m to upgrade canteens, toilets and playgrounds

Mar 11, 2021

Bligh Park, Freemans Reach, Glossodia, Hobartville, Oakville, Kurrajong East and Windsor Public Schools are each set to benefit from the $1.13m cash injection just announced as part of the NSW Government’s $120m Metro Renewal Program.

The Program provides a government co-contribution of between 50 to 80 per cent for school infrastructure improvements to high priority schools in metropolitan areas.

Here are the Hawkesbury school upgrades:

  • Bligh Park Public School – toilet upgrade

  • Brewongle Environmental Education Centre – canteen upgrade

  • Freemans Reach Public School – canteen upgrade

  • Glossodia Public School – canteen upgrade

  • Hobartville Public School – admin and staff upgrade

  • Kurrajong East Public School – playground upgrade

  • Oakville Public School – Learning Unit upgrade

  • Windsor Public School – sporting facilities

Hawkesbury MP Robyn Preston said, “I’m delighted that so many schools in Hawkesbury have benefitted from this program.

“Delivery of these projects will be undertaken in the next 18 months as part of the NSW Government’s economic stimulus package for NSW schools,” Ms Preston said.

State Minister for Education, Sarah Mitchell, said the school projects in the Hawkesbury were part of the NSW Government’s stimulus program and the State’s Covid-19 Recovery Plan.

“I’m pleased that we are continuing our record investment in school infrastructure, including the projects in the Hawkesbury region. The funding will directly benefit local communities and support hundreds of jobs in metro NSW,” Ms Mitchell said.

The NSW government says it is investing $7 billion over the next four years, and claims its funding program will deliver more than 200 new and upgraded schools across NSW.

The government says it is the largest investment in public education infrastructure in the State’s history.
