Nurse at Windsor’s Hawkesbury Hospital tests positive for COVID

Hawkesbury Hospital has confirmed this morning a full-time female nurse has tested positive for COVID as has a patient at the hospital.

The unvaccinated employee was last at work on Friday 6 and Saturday 7 August and was not symptomatic during this time. She got tested immediately on receiving advice of a confirmed household contact and self-isolated while waiting for results. A patient from the ward where the nurse is known to have worked has also tested positive for COVID-19. Appropriate precautions are being taken and the ward has been closed to new admissions. Elective surgery has been cancelled until further notice. Other parts of the hospital including day surgery, emergency surgery and the Emergency Department are open and operating. The NSW Government Public Health Unit was informed and Hawkesbury District Health Service has undertaken contact tracing and notified all caregivers and patients of the potential risk so they can self-isolate and be tested.

Patients who had any contact with the nurse have been informed and told to immediately get tested for the virus and to self-isolate for 15 days.

The news comes hard on the heels of another case of COVID in the Hawkesbury at Richmond’s Hawkesbury Living nursing home, where a male health worker – not the same person as the nurse at Hawkesbury Hospital – also tested positive for COVID.

All residents at Hawkesbury Living were tested for COVID yesterday evening and all results so far are all negative.
