Thank you reception held for those who helped the Hawkesbury over the last 3 years of disasters

Jun 23, 2022

Hawkesbury Council held a Thank You Civic Reception last night – Wednesday evening – to acknowledge and celebrate the emergency services and community organisations that helped the Hawkesbury through the pandemic and the natural disasters faced over the last three years, including the March 2022 floods, 2021 flood and the 2019/2020 bushfires.

Over 100 guests were at the event, including NSW State Emergency Service (SES), Hawkesbury SES, NSW Rural Fire Service Hawkesbury, Fire and Rescue NSW, Richmond RAAF Base, Hawkesbury Police Local Area Command, and key community organisations that assisted during the floods and bushfires.

Deputy Mayor Barry Calvert presented the thank-you plaques, and Darug woman Erin Wilkins performed the Welcome to Country.

“We had the Gospers Mountain Fire, during one of the worst fire seasons ever seen in the Hawkesbury and NSW, and it was devastating. Then the flood and more floods, and all during a pandemic,” Cllr Calvert said.

“Thank you to all of our emergency services, volunteers and community organisations who assisted us, and you continue to assist us – thank you for always stepping up. Your work is exceptional and we need you. Saying thank you is really important to us. Tonight is just a small way that we can show you our gratitude.”

The Council thanked:

· NSW and Hawkesbury State Emergency Service

· NSW Rural Fire Service Hawkesbury

· Hawkesbury Police Local Area Command

· Fire and Rescue Windsor Station and Richmond Station

· St John of God Health Care
