THURS COVID UPDATE – 1029 NEW NSW CASES – HAWKESBURY CASES UP 5 TO 70

Aug 26, 2021

We’ve crested a thousand cases within the last 24 hours in NSW – a worrying new record – with 1029 new cases but Premier Gladys Berejiklian concentrated this morning on new freedoms for those fully vaccinated, with 5 friends able to gather – it’s 2 at the moment – together from September 13. That will apply to the Hawkesbury.

Hawkesbury is still at 65 active cases of COVID but the numbers have not yet been updated for the last 24 hours. We’ll bring you those as soon as we get them.

Meanwhile, the regional lockdown has been extended to Friday September 10 due to rising cases there.

A plan and timetable for schools restarting with in-class lessons will be announced tomorrow.

Also from September 13 in those tightly locked down LGAs of concern – which currently does not include the Hawkesbury – families will be able to go sit in the park as long as the adults are vaccinated. That gives those residents an hour of recreation on top of their allowed hour of exercise.

There are 698 people in hospital, 116 are in ICU and 43 are on ventilators.

Some 102 of those in ICU have not been vaccinated.

Chief Medical Officer Kerry Chant said age ranges in hospital range from those in their 20s right through to those in their 70s.

There were 136,000 vaccinations in the last 24 hours and NSW is now up to 6.2million jabs.
