Wanted man attempts to flee as police come knocking in Windsor

Jan 12, 2021

Police have found and charged a man in Windsor who allegedly escaped from a minimum-security correctional facility in Glen Innes last year.

Officers from New England Police District began an investigation after the man was reported missing from the facility on Gwydir Highway about 12pm, back on 23 May 2020.

Following extensive inquiries, officers from Hawkesbury Police working with their Dog Unit colleagues, visited a home on New Street, Windsor about 5am yesterday – Monday – where they arrested the 44-year-old man who was allegedly attempting to flee out the back of the house.

The man was arrested and taken to Windsor Police Station where two outstanding warrants were executed for inmate escape/attempt to escape from lawful custody and steal motor vehicle.

He was refused bail and appeared in Penrith Local Court yesterday where he was again remanded in custody.
